Nasa must have changed alot recently. I never joined the CU but just outright applied for one of their cards and was approved for 30k. That was late 2013 three years ago though with mid 600s on all three reports. I was rebuilding and my highest CL was probably around 1k with many INQs before I got the card. I've never had problems, their cards are nothing special though. I keep the card for padding and use it a couple times a month.

Yes they have changed quite a bit from those days.
UTIL,UTIL,UTIL. you can break all kinds of aaoa and inq trends and "rules" if you dont owe any banks anything. Credit unions tend to approve great limits with scores up to 50 points lower than citi or chase but if your debt isnt in order they are worse, as they will pyramid ban you when chase or citi will approve with a toy limit. Choose you battles.

I think this is an overly broad statement. Some CU's are more willing to work with rebuilders. Other CUs prefer more established/cleaner profiles. If I recall correctly, NASA FCU has been denying recently based on your total CL. People with too much available credit, no matter their util can be denied.
A couple of months ago, I joined NASA FCU and am perfectly happy. I have absolutely no intentions to app for any of their CC's. Maybe an autoloan in a couple of years depending on the rates. Or even stash some money in a CD, again based on rates. I mostly wanted a monthly ex-08 score.
I guess its ymmv because I've gotten many many cards since I got Nasa including all my Chase and Citi cards and havent had any problems with pyramiding. I got an email today saying my card is changing into a 1.5% for everything card. Lets see how that turns out
