Navy Federal Question

Sorry if this is elsewhere on the board, I couldn't find it...

DW is going to join NFCU; from what I understand they do a hard pull when you join (she's planning to get a checking and savings account with them) and that when you apply for your first card it's a hard pull. It was my understanding that they pull from TU, but I've see some posts that stated an EQ pull for the credit card, so I had a couple of questions.

1. Do they generally pull from TU when you apply for a card (Mod cut - these types of discussions are not permitted)

2. Can you apply for a credit card the same day that you apply for membership? I saw a post on a different forum from around August that stated you have to wait 90 days after joining to apply for a card.

Thanks!

Re: Navy Federal Question

@difringe, it is against myFICO forum rules to discuss freezing one or two of your (or DW's) credit reports in order to force a lender to pull another CR they wouldn't ordinarily use for a credit decision.

As far as membership goes, it is SP to join. Needless to say, be sure her reports are thawed if she plans on applying for any credit products. She can apply as soon as her membership has been established.

Re: Navy Federal Question

Generally, it’s HP on TU for new card applications. HP on EQ for CLI requests and for loan applications, like the CLOC.

Re: Navy Federal Question

No HP to join

TU HP for new CC

EQ SP (lately) for CLIs - HPs in the past

EQ HP for CLOC

Great CU!

GL!

Sorry about that, thanks

Re: Navy Federal Question

Hello! To answer your 1st question—yes. I’ve applied, my bf, and other family members within the last 6 months and they were all pulled from Transunion. To answer your 2nd question yes—you can open a checking/savings account and apply for a credit card on the same day. I applied for the checking account for my mother yesterday and thereafter logged into the NF website and went straight to the offers tab. The offer to apply for the Amex was there—so I applied. And she immediately got $1,000 with a 14.49% rate and 560 trans and 600 ex. Good luck!!

Re: Navy Federal Question

While TU is normally pulled for a new card, they pulled EQ for me. And instead of EQ for my cloc, they pulled TU. Me and my wife also received HPs when joining despite everyone saying it would be SP.

Re: Navy Federal Question

I joined June of 2019 and it was a soft pull for me. Only time I had a Hard pull was when I applied for credit cards.
