The CLOC is a hard pull and you find the increase option after you go in like you are applying for a new line. Then on the following page it will ask if this is a new line or an increase of existing and show you the max you can ask for.  I usually see success in going to the full $15k after the first CLI you receive on your credit card.

Thank you.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I've been banking with NFCU since 2015, and I got the secured card with a $1K limit on March 17th. They pulled Transunion, and at the time my FICO8 for Transunion was about 550. When I received the letter explaining my credit score, it said that Navy uses their own scoring system now with a range of 100-450, with my score being 214.

I'm hoping in September that I can apply for an unsecured card and get it. I would also like to refinance my car at that time with them. I've had the car since November 2016.

Does anyone know which version of the FICO scoring system NFCU uses? What are my chances of getting the unsecured card?

They use their own system using data from equifax and transunion.  This is similar to Penfed.   By using the data and having their own internal scoring system they can decide what factors they want to weight more heavily than others.  Back in August of 2015 I was denied for an unsecured card so I went the secured route.  In November of the same year they approved me for a unsecured card at $4,600 which was my highest CL at the time.  Shortly after that I was approved for CLOC at $15k.  My equifax scores were around 620 at the time.  Of course every situation is different so you will need to judge for yourself.  I would work on rebuilding for a while so you don't end up with a bunch of HP's that result in denials.  The one part of my rebuild I regret is applying for CCs before I had good enough scores to be confident in approvals.  I ended up with quite a few HP's that were worthless.  If your Transunion is 550 you likely have some collections or other baddies you can try and tackle.  When your scores are 620-640ish you should have no problem getting approved for an unsecured card.  The folks over at the rebuilding section are great at helping with rebuilding.

I got a surprise last night!

I opened my NFCU account in Nov '16. I got the Platinum card for 16k and CLOC fo 15k and was ecstatic! I've been using them 2 -4k/mo since then and PIF ( and left some on some statements). I waited until after the Mar 1 review and ap'ed for a cli and hit the Max button, so I was hoping for 25k. I got the 24 hour message and was approved for 24k the next morning. They also did an HP on me.

I'm not complaing about the 24k so much as it made me scratch my head why they 24 houred me, what held them back 1k, and why they HP'ed. I was planning on getting a Rewards card, so that made me stop and think first. My util  has gone up the past 60 days as I have some balances on 2 "0% apr" cards which leaves me at a total util of 15%...so I guessed that got their interest up. I also had about 9% on the CLOC when they reviewed my account, but I paid it off about a week later (I owe zero on all NFCU products now and have 3k in checking and savings which I normally carry there).

So I ignored the signals and ap'ed for the Flagship rewards card on 3/5 and got the 24 hour message (Sunday morning) and was denied first thing Monday morning...said I didn't qualify for the card? I was figuring I wouldn't get a real good sl at this point, but I wasn't expecting a flat out denial... I was crushed. I was going to ask for a recon, but the message said to wait for the letter to tell me my options. The letter said basically I didn't qualify and I hadn't showed I could handle my credit?? My Util is always under 10% at was at >1% before I did these BT's. I sure didn't think they would hurt. My late payments category says "Never" on all 3B's and no baddies.. so I just dropped it and went on. They have been good to me and I didn't want to rock the boat.

Yesterday, I sent them a message to see about adding my wife to my accounts as a joint owner becuase she has no access to any of the cash we have there (in case Im gone) or cards (I can't AU her if she isn't a member). I got to thinking about the rewards card debacle and sent them a message wanting clairifcationand to see if since I didn't qualify for the Flagship, see if I would qualify for cash rewards. I figured I wouldn't hear anything until Monday.

I got an email from them last night (at 9:59PM?) saying I had meassage...

" Thank you for your message. Because we take our members’ concerns seriously, we have conducted a second review of your application. We are pleased to inform you that your recent credit card application has been approved. Your new Visa Signature Flagship Rewards card has been issued to your address of record and should be received within approximately 5-7 business days. Your new credit limit is 9,000.00."  !!!! Smiley Surprised

Man was I shocked... and it was the Flagship too! Smiley Very Happy My faith has been restored and I guess they were just in a bad mood whoever got my first ap.. I don't know and I don't care! I guess this also shows not to be shy about just asking a question. I was surprised too they were working at 10:00 pm on Saturday night!

It's official ... I did NOT get a Hard Pull on the recon (3 weeks after the ap). Just got my 3B from CCT and there was only the HP from the original request...SAWEEET! Smiley Very Happy

New with NFCU just getting in this thread to learn more about them.

TU and EX were 590s and I got 2600 on the CC and 1k CLOC- now just waiting. Using the card religiously the past week and plan on PIF weekly.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Hey welcome to the Navy Family . Just be good to them and they will be good to you . I would work on getting them scores up to around 650s and then try for your first CLIs on them . Thanks try bf that would be a risk of denial and HP too .

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I have a question regarding utilization: I know you should stay under 30% (really should be lower than that, I usually try to stay under 15). Thing is, I have a vacation next month and am trying to plan around that. Is the 30% rule for all available credit or for each card? For info: I have discover 112 (will be paid off completely before statement cut), cap1 175 (will be paid off completely this weekend), Victoria Secret 0, and NFCU cash rewards 1300 (400 is going on it this weekend, another 400 on the 21st- statement cut date is 23rd....I could put another few hundred before the statement cuts, just wondering what my sweet spot is). Thanks for the help!
