@newmomnewme I'm wishing you a great outcome with the CLI! Smart move to wait on the card! It will be waiting (and calling to you lol) after you close on your new home!! You know I'll be watching for your update!! Have a good week ahead!
@EOL2018 Hey that is great! You might as well give yourself every chance possible for the chance at a new card and a nice SL. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (Calling my guru...@Anonymous where are you, lol) but your best chance at seeing an increase might be when the total utilization is <29% and then <9%. Also, since you are going to be paying down those accounts, possibly look and see how many you can get to zero and carry the balance on just one card if possible. Having balances on all cards may not serve you best.
IMHO, I would #1. Get the balances reduced #2. See them report the new status #3. Get the 4th statement #4. Apply for the new card #5. Apply for the CLI on the first card
P.S. I would also not bother with putting usage on that CLOC and then paying it off. I don't think that usage will matter with the decision to give you a second card.
Enjoy your week and I'll watch for your updates!!

@OmarGB9 wrote:Did I mess up? I forgot the order for new app/CLI to be honest, but anyway, I apped for a More Rewards (and was approved! Albeit for only $1k) card. I tried asking for a CLI online on my secured nRewards afterwards, but it said it was unable to process and to call their customer service number. Did I mess up?
Is a $1k Navy approval borderline kinda like an Amex $1k approval? Is bucketing a thing with Navy? Will it still grow quickly?
Thanks in advance to any answers.
Congratulations on your approval!
I haven't heard of NFCU bucketing cards. It'll grow.
Thank you! And that's good to know, but my next question is: how quickly will it grow? I was really hoping for one of those amazing $20-$25k SLs that seem to be the norm with Navy.
@Anonymous wrote:@OmarGB9 I totally agree with @Mr_Mojo_Risin, no buckets! I have a CR ($21K), Platinum ($18K) and went for the third card MR in September. Instantly approved (yaay!) for $1K (ugh!). I guess they were underwelmed with my request haha!! I'll be trying for a CLI at the end of December so I'm hoping it will grow.
I'll give you an update either way!!! Fingers crossed that we both see some growth on the cards in 2021!
Thanks @Anonymous ! Did your CR and Plat start low? And yes let us/me know whether they approve your CLI!
Another question, for anyone that wants to answer/knows the answer: can I apply for a CLOC with same HP, and if so, is my TU score good enough for approval (TU9 score only off by a few points from TU8 score in sig)? DTI around 35%, 3 unpaid COs, 5 paid COs, 1 collection. Income ~$70k.
@OmarGB9 CLOC typically pulls EQ9 because it's a loan, whereas cc pull TU9.

@portlandmusician wrote:@M_Smart007 Thank you. You may not consider yourself a guru, but I appreciate the feedback and help.
I'll try to not bite my nails, and be patient, and just wait to see what Ol' Navy has for me. Hopefully it is good news, but I will share it regardless. I hope it ends with congrats!
Thanks again.
It took DH 5 days to hear back during the pandemic, but when I called they had gotten a little mixed up and calling fixed that. If you have not heard back by the 48 hour mark I would send a secure message to follow up. Then give that 2 days, then call. They are wonderful and during normal times stuff like this is highly unusual, but they are working with reduced staff just like everyone else out there.
@recoveringfrombk7 What was your DH's end results? I'm curious, as I continue to wait. Tom Petty is right, the waiting is the hardest part.
12k starting line on a plat, we did need to send POI. DH is self employed and does not do his checking banking with Navy.
@recoveringfrombk7 Ah! So all the waiting and it was good news! Nice. Congrats.
@newmomnewme wrote:Good luck @portlandmusician I think you got this! Is Navy opened tomorrow? I would like to see your post in the approval thread when I wander over there this weekend!
@newmomnewme I guess they are open on weekends! I swear I checked my app and email (including spam folder!) several times a day. All weekend, I didn't hear anything, after the call to verify my identity on Friday. I woke up this morning, checked again, nothing. "Oh well, I'll be patient and wait," I told myself. Well, I just did another check and, in my spam folder, I found a letter from yesterday from Navy Fed congratulating me! I was approved for the lowest APR and $25k limit. You can imagine my joy! So excited. Not sure how I didn't see it yesterday in my spam folder, but better late than never! Good luck to you on your CLI! Fingers are crossed and I'm pulling for you! Thanks again for the help, reassurance, and conversation!
Everyone else... thank you so much! Oh man, I was sweating bullets and biting my nails hard the past several days and, in the end, Navy Fed for the win!
Over to approvals I go...
Happy Holidays! I hope you and yours are healthy, safe, and you're all doing well! Trust in Navy Fed, that's all I can say
Thank you for the feedback . I figured just didn't want to miss out on some "hack" if there was one lol
@Anonymous I will definitely follow your suggestions, thank you. I believe it is the best route to obtain the outcome I am seeking! I will definitely provide an update when I apply for the 2nd card and the CLI.
Enjoy the rest of your work week. As for me, Mortgage Processing has really picked up since COVID so we are super busy!
Whooo Hoo!! @portlandmusician way to go!!! A nice Monday am spam surprise! Awesome SL AND lowest rate!!! Well done.
