Hi All,
I'm looking to apply for 4 new cards in the near future: the Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Capital One Quicksilver, and Capital One SavorOne. I'm currently at 6/24 (new accounts) & 10+/20 (HPs) but will fall to 2/24 (new accounts) & 4/24 (HPs) within the next 6 months.
I planned to apply for the Quicksilver 2 weeks ago, the Freedom 6 months later, Freedom Unlimited 2-3 months after that, then the SavorOne 2-3 months later, and into the garden for 2+ years. That way I still have one 5/24 spot, just in case.
When I applied for the Quicksilver I got the 7-10 day responce. I called the robo line and got an under review responce. When I called for a real person they said I was denied and then they hung up. Tried again and the second representative asked some questions then said that I had to wait for the paper letter before recon. I still haven't gotten anything in the mail.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I feel like I wasted a triple HP and I don't want to wait 6 months to be denied by Chase. My first instict is to get the Capital One Platinum secured card (so that I can later PC to the Quicksilver) and open a Chase checking account (to establish history with them). Any help and/or advise would greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Welcome to the board. With your current card line up, why in the world would you apply for the Capital One secured card? What is the logic behind that sort of reasoning? Do you mind sharing?
You are overthinking this. If I were in your shoes, this is what I'd do. Wait for 6 months and don't apply for any cards. You don't need to have a Chase checking account to apply for Chase credit cards although it is nice to have a relationship.
Once the 6 months wait is over, apply for the Chase cards first before anything else. I really like Capital One but those applications can wait. Once you have secured the Chase cards, then you can move on to others. Remember, getting these cards is like strategy like anything in life.
The only reason I thought the secured card might be a good idea is because they denied me for the QS. I get pre-qual mailers almost daily and figure that it might be a good idea to establish a relationship with them. The QS signup bonus is a nice plus but the goal is to get the QS as a long term keeper.
Also do you know if there is still a chance for recon? I havent gotten anything in the mail and the phone reps are alittle uninformed/helpful.

Thats fair. But cross the secured card off your list.. You already have an established credit and Capital One is not very difficult to get in my opinion and with your scores and line up, you should be able to get in.
What do they tell you when you call?
The first guy was honestly just rude. He asked for the application #. Then he looked up the file and said that I was denied and that it would be illegal for him to help me (or even to tell me anything). Then he hung up.
The second guy was way more helpful. He looked up my file, asked some verification style questions (name, address, income) and put me on hold. When he came back he said the application was denied and that a letter would be sent. And that I needed that letter before he could put me through to underwritting. I never got any letter (its been more than 7-10 days). Is this normal?

Looking at your accounts you listed I see no reason for the QS. You have a better card in the Citi DC, and your WF Cash Wise is the same rewards. One thing you didn't mention was your Utilization, both total and individual. Since you were denied I am thinking you might have some Util issues. If that is the case take the next 6 months in the Garden work on your util, let your new accounts and inq. age a bit. then go for the Chase cards and the Savor. Forget the QS completely.
If you go secured you will be bucketed and the card won't grow. Then IF you are allowed to pc it you would most likey be to the QS1 and you would have an AF.
I also dont see why Cap One would deny you, you have much better scores then I did when i started with CapOne and i was approved no problem. In the past when i have requested CLIs and been denied with them it can take anywhere from 3-14 days to get a letter, so i would just hang in there for it, but at 1-3% util i still dont see a denial reason. The one thing i can thing of is average age of accounts, as thats what i get routinly denied for, "too many new accounts".
