No CLI, No New Cards No Problem

So I have been receiving offers to upgrade my Delta Plat & Hilton Honors to the Delta Reserve and Hilton Aspire. The upgrades were approved and my new cards are being shipped. It is also reflecting on my Amex account.

Im currently an HGV holder and I exclusively fly Delta. I was very skeptical upgrading both cards because the AF combined would be right below $1K a year.

After doing the math and looking at my offers I realized it made sense to upgrade because of how much I am currently traveling and will be traveling.

I put $10K payments through on my Delta Plat this month so hitting 30K spend should be a breeze. My Hilton has 150,000 points so far and now with the upgrade I receive all of the points as if its a new card and I receive Diamond status with upgrades where applicable.

My biggest downside to both Amex cards is that my limits are $1700 & $1,000. Hence making $10K payments just to make the card worthy of having. I've been denied CLIs and really hoping they bump up my CL especially with the upgrades bc the annual fee is pretty much 33% of my Delta CL & 50% of my Hilton CL.

I read a few months back that they wouldn't upgrade or if upgraded the card limit needs to be substantial in order to have such a large AF but I guess that is not case?

Congrats on the upgrades. Sadly, they won't increase the limits for the new fees.

I don't think I've ever heard of such low limits on such high level cards. I guess you need to just keep plugging away with the soft pull CLI requests until you get some traction with them.

Congrats on your upgrade to the Delta Reserve and Hilton Aspire . . . perhaps when you submit your next CLI you can call for a reconsideration if it's declined. Best wishes on obtaining your desired credit limit!!!

Re: No CLI, No New Cards No Problem

I bet if you cold app'd for the upgraded cards you'd get approved with much higher limits.

Thank you! I figured. Running high spend through the cards with no CLI is a bummer.

Thank you so much! I really would love higher limits even $5K on both cards would be sufficient but 1k & 1.7k are just not enough :/

If I cold app for the upgraded cards would I miss out on the bonuses bc I have the upgraded versions of them now?

Yes because you've already had the product. You would have to downgrade and upgrade again for any bonus in the future.
