Hey guys -
New to the site here and looking to improve my wallet with some new cards. Some background on me: I am 22 years old, just graduated college, and have an an annual income of $54k. My current scores are TU - 697 and Equifax - 720. My TU just went down 24 points (was at 721) and my Equfax went down 26 (was at 746) due to me having to hold a high balance on my card for a few weeks. It increased my CU to 31%. However, I just paid most of it off so CU should be around 10%. I also just had a CI for my cable and internet that got put on my credit.
I have two cards right now. One student visa with $1000CL and one visa platinum through TCM Bank with $2500Cl. I have had auto loans and motorycle loans over the years and never missed a payment on anything. All of my loans are paid off with the exception of my current auto loan which holds a balance of $20K. I also have about $35k in student loan debt that I will have to start paying on in December. My AAoA is 2 years 7 months for TU and 2 years 11 months for Equifax. I have 6 inquiries on my account as of now, with 3 of them dropping off in August.
I looked around at sites and I have pre-quals on many sites (Citi Bank, Discover, AMEX, Chase). I am really interested in the Freedom and/or CSP as I will be traveling often for work. I have pre-qual for the CSP, Freedom, and Slate. I am nervous to apply for them at the moment though since my score just dropped. What do you guys think? Any advice is greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post!
Chase's pre qual is pretty solid. If I were in your shoes I would app for the Freedom.
Do you think my recent decline in CS will hurt my odds? I'm assuming these offers were given to me when my score was in the 700's for both. Also, do you know how long Pre-Qual offers stay valid?
Go for it!
Do you know what your current Experian score is? They pulled TU and EX for me. I had the same pre quals as you, I app'd for the Freedom and was approved. I had a very thin file at the time and my scores were under 700 then too. I'm not sure how long the pre quals stay valid, but I can tell you I still check them from time to time and I don't pre qual for anything at all now--but I think that is because my Freedom is only 3 months old. I would say go for the Freedom and let us know how it goes.
Chase's prequalified offers are about as good as it gets. I got Freedom with a 625 score.
Thanks for all the replies guys! Where can I check my experian score at? I've just been using Credit Karma.
Just pulled my Experian score and it is 701. However, it is still showing my heavy CU. Should I wait until it updates with my amount after the payments I just made?
Did you app yet?
Just so you know Credit Karma's scores are not Fico scores. My TU and EQ scores on Credit Karma are 75-90 points lower than my actual Fico scores. So your actual Fico scores may be higher than you think (YMMV). Just go for it!
