Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

I dont think one has to worry too much about cld with Discover unless you do something negative like miss payments, go late , or something like that. We rarely see that here and ive been on board for 3 years plusSmiley Happy

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

This is what I was hopeful for, and I still think it will or should be the case. The thing is last year I didn't have any higher limit cards,(most 500 limits) and Disco was the first besides my Dcu visa 3k to give a decent limit. Now they have fallen behind and hope they attempt to take my #1 spot. I'm thinking they are going to give me a nice cli when they do. I've opened up 3 cards since May including 2nd disco so maybe they want to see me handle that new credit. O ya bipolar disco no rhyme or reason. The day after I got my Citi rewards with more than double the limit of Discover I noticed a disco sp the next day so I know they at least looked at my report since it hit. We will see.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

So the 3rd card u got was only 1000 sl? And u have one at 8k.. so they obviously take total credit limit into consideration when giving limits and increases.
Does that happen often get a much lower limit on a new card w same bank?

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

FWIW - I started in 09 with a $900 limit. 9 years later I was at $44,500. The last 5 requested CLIs were $500 each. I put about $200 a month on the card in recurring charges. Been doing this for the past 5 or 6 years. I was at 10% util on a BT. Prior to that, I always PIF'd. I paid the balance off two weeks ago. Monday, on a whim I asked for a CLI since it had been about a year. Instand approval for $5000. So I am now up to $49,500 on a card that historically gets very little use relative to CL.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Wow that's great. Makes me think because obviously I want to keep my oldest disco when I combine limits but was afraid my first card (unsecured after 7or8 months)may have been bucketed in some way. After hearing about the SL on ur cc and the growth of I keep older line

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Berk, your situation and mine are quite similar.  My limit like yours is a little under $50k and I received a handful of smaller $500 CLIs (or nothing) for a bit and then finally got a $5000 CLI last month.

Interesting, as I just came across this statement in seeing if others have seen a CLD. Had my card for 2x years now, no negatives, no lates almost always PIF and have used the card reasonably and just saw them drop mine from $8k SL to $4300. Which is somewhat interesting in that my FICO is higher now than when I applied, *and* I just paid off a $43k car loan with NFCU. We are talking *zero* changes other than to the positive in any of my accounts. Interesting data point in that the drop was within 48 hours of the NFCU loan getting reported as paid off. Shouldn't be a loan mix issue as I have 2x other car loans, both older.

Sorry about that. Really appreciate you sharing.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Definitely sorry to hear about that. Had you been getting any credit limit increases in the past year?
I have always loved discover, and decided to open a bank account with their savings shortly after I open my credit card. I have noticed their savings account interest rate has gone down slightly. They have also been somewhat stingy with my credit limit compared to other Banks. So I decided to move half of my savings to City savings with 2.3% interest. I know the percentages don't make too much of a difference but it's the principle seems like they are tightening up overall. At least in my case. The next 6 months will be very telling on how discover feels about my overall exposure. Good luck if you are trying to get that credit limit back up

Hadn't really tried the LUV button with them that much, I think a deny and maybe 2x $500 increases. I'll call them next week when I get back from vacation to see if they'll tell me what's up. I only knew because I got a secure message in their app with a PDF that stated the decrease. Reason stated was too many new accounts, which strikes me as odd because I think my newest is 8 months old. Other lenders must not see me as the same kind of a risk, because NFCU just bumped me $11k, and PayPal did $8k both without asking. Wife is AU on all 3 accounts, and both EX and TU FICO8 is 749 for me and 804 for her, so go figure. It's not like I don't have credit lines available, if Disco wants to play that game I'll just take my business to someone that wants it I guess. It just stings in an insulting way, although I know it's just an algorhythm and nothing personal on their part.
