I was declined a CLI request in Apr & Jun 2019 due to outstanding balance on card too high (~$4.8K).

I have a prom 0% APR BT balance of $4K on the card. So I only decreased the balance $800 to get the increase (hmmmm).

Ooooo, thanks.  Just did our first BT and was just wondering that.  You read my mind from afar!Smiley Tongue

Congrats on your cli too!

Thank you. I really was expecting another decline because the card UT was still $25.4%. Maybe as long as it's ~28.9%, they're cool. But, who knows with Disco? The increase was a pleasant surprise.

|| AmX Cash Magnet $40.5K || NFCU CashRewards $30K || Discover IT $24.7K || Macys $24.2K || NFCU CLOC $15K || NFCU Platinum $15K || CitiCostco $12.7K || Chase FU $12.7K || Apple Card $7K || BOA CashRewards $6K

Well, it looks like that balance drop crossed the 28.9% threshold (or maybe a flat 30% for Discover algorithm purposes) as you moved from ~31% utilization to ~26% with that $800 paydown.  Just something to consider from a percentage standpoint and to keep in mind going forward with others that may be approved/denied for a CLI with similar numbers.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

I am currently using 900 of my $2,000 balance. And I was declined, and waiting for the reason in the mail. Most likely using too much of my credit limit. I will pay down the balance and request another credit limit increase. I can hopefully get one after I'm paid down to less than 30%. Does anyone know if I can request a credit limit increase 2 days after my last one? Since it was a denial of course

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Ok, this is my average advice. It doesnt really matter how much you are using of your limit. You are either eligible for a credit limit increase or not. Most denial reasons are insufficient experience with current limit which is just another way of saying no at this moment. You can request more cli, ie my Hulk Smash, every day if you want. I have done so and eventually you will get THE SCREENSmiley Wink. You dont need to be at 0% or 9% or whatever. What i basically do with my Disco is just use it and often times just pay in full when it posts. Ive done like 2 bts but paid them back within a month. Lol, thats probably why i dont have any bt offers at rhe moment but i know theyll come back. This method has worked for me so far. Smiley Wink

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

That sounds like a great plan, and I probably should do that. I'm thinking if I show responsible use and pay off the bt, Wich I could just do now but I am hopeful showing I can pay off my 1st card 650 balance Wich gets zero spend and my new card 900 balance and gets plenty of use by end of both promos I'll get rewarded in the long run. If I needed the credit right now I'd try and Max my profile for best chance cli, but disco will grow I'm sure. But it would be nice to have my identical twin 2000 cl Disco cards change to fraternal twins with a credit bump on one LOL. 95% of reported balance on credit report is from both Disco cards.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Its ok to carry a balance on a 0% offer or if you are bting for awile. Disco doesnt mind. If i had the money id pay off all my debt and just go pif , score be darnedSmiley Wink. Unfortunately im not in that position but im so accustomed to paying in full when i can, on my second go around in credit, that i just dont like to see balances if i can help it.

Many people harp on Synchrony, some good reasons to be sure, but they have been essential for me and a staple in my collection. But one thing i make sure is they are always PIF . I am prepared for sny blue envelope shannaningans.

I think im going to create quite the uproar on this thread with what i went and did with Miss DiscoSmiley Wink. Details to hop over to the Apples section later todaySmiley Wink

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

I completely get it to PIF is a great habit. I learned the hard way luckily the collection was removed early.
Synchrony has been a staple as much as any bank for me as well.
They gave me 11,000 between 2 cards when others limits were not close.
I will miss them I think once cap1 takes over but I did get a car to tell me they would be most likely sending offers for synchrony MasterCard she made it seem like a current Walmart sc could be converted to a synch MC. Doesn't sound right to me but I don't know for sure. I would think she meant pre approval offers for a new card. Sorry off topic..
Interested in what u did w miss disco

You can request one as often as you'd like.  I would try again after doing the paydown to below 30%.  If that doesn't work, wait until the sub-30% balance reports to the bureaus and Discover gives you a fresh pull of your Fico score and try again.

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

Edit: The letter I received that said number of Disco accounts was for a pre qualification for Discover Wich I kinda remember doing but had nothing to do with cli sorry for misinformation...
Reason for cldenial was same. Not enough time with current limit....
Just got a letter from the 1st of August. I was told I could apply on that date for a cli. The letter said the amount of Discover financial accounts I have is too many. I have 2 cc and 2 bank accounts, but would expect the bank accounts wouldn't hurt. But has any1 seen this reason for a denial on cli?

Re: Proof: Discover has tightened up CLI requirements.

I'm going to do exactly that @brutalbodyshots. I'll test on my first disco Wich is closer to thirty percent, and statement cuts before second card. (19th), and 26th for 2nd card.
I really don't know what to think after that letter stating the number of Discover financial accounts. If this is the reason in the future maybe I Should close my old one? I really don't want to.
