@adelphi_sky wrote:I went ahead and applied for the CSP on the night of 12/01. I got the dreaded 7-10 day message. This, of course, just before I found the 5/24 rule. While I'm not sure if I broke that rule or not, my application is still pending. I just called the automated number as suggested in this thread and got the 30-day message. I already have a Chase Marriott Rewards and and IHG Rewards card that are both paid off. I would like to extend my relationship with Chase with an awesome travel card. I'll see where it goes.
After reading these forums for a few hours, there really is no rhyme or reason to approvals and denials. And it sounds like a phone call can change decisions. I think that is a good thing. I think nothing like this should be left to pure numbers. Everyone's situation is different and should be considered as such.
Don't get your hopes up on the 5/24 rule though as Chase has been extremely rigid on this rule. I don't think I've seen anyone successfully recon it. It's ridiculous, we all agree, but it is what it is. You should probably find out if you have 5 new credit cards opened in the past 24 months and if so wait on Chase until the 5th one ages out. And app for all the Chase cards that you want, once eligible, before you app for anything else.
Also, please learn from me and don't bother with the Arrival Plus. It's a garbage card, aside from the signup bonus, it's not even as good as Citi Double Cash or Fidelity Amex but comes with an $89 AF. Plus you get the added bonus of Barclays atrocious customer service. Save your HP's for a more worthwhile card!
I asked this on another thread but I'm trying to figure out if a charge account counts the same as a credit card in this 5/24 rule. If so I had 8 new accounts reporting when I was instantly approved for my CSP on 11/27/15. I'm trying to figure out how if this rule is set in stone. Unless I was just lucky.
Hmmm so yea I definitely got lucky. Since Nov 2013 - Nov 2015, when I was approved for CSP, I've opened 8 new accounts. Online, I was not prequalified nor in branch, and didn't have to recon.
I Wonder if it's because I've had a savings and checking with them for some time and a Slate card with them already.

Called the Chase automated status line again today and the message is still saying within 30-days.
Keep in mind they could of relaxed this rule for the holiday season as well, but I am guessing the 24x5 rule is still intact, but obviously could change any day if they aren't getting the applications/quota expected, etc. So basically as the rule came it could go just as easy although for now as far as I know it still remains firm!

That's a good point. I never thought of that. It makes sense. People are always looking to increase their available credit during the holiday season for gifts and travel and not necessarily applying for the bonuses.
Finally got the approval on the Freedom today....no limit yet...
Now to decide what else to app for.
