Question about AMEX double dipping

I want to get both a Platinum and Gold Charge card, and one AMEX revolver.  My question is that I know you can use 1 HP for two cards, but have also heard you get the Gold if you get approved for the Platinum.   Does that mean that I can get all three cards (conceptually) with the 1 HP?  Or is the above regarding getting the gold if you have the platinum not correct?

The reason I am interested is because I really want the Rose Gold. Smiley Happy I only have until 1/19 to get that.  I also really want the Platinum and the Delta Platinum. I am awfully impatient, and would like to get everything at once.  So, I am trying to maximize both what i get for the HP, and also whether I can get all three cards at once. Thank you!

Re: Question about AMEX double dipping

In theory because the card limit for applying as many cards at once is limited to revolvers at 2 in a 90 day period (supposedly there's a 5 day limit between apps for revolvers as well but seems AMEX is more lenient on that rule) you could get all three cards at once. Charge cards have no such limits which is why I think this is doable.

Best educated guess is you might be able to push two cards through but the third one may be flagged as possible fraud til you speak with their new accounts department. Just to be safe if you're going to go through with it I would apply for the Delta Plat and the first charge card of your choice that you absolutely want right now - assuming Gold Rose - before attempting the third card (second charge card) to see if you can squeeze that in.

Assuming you can only push two cards through since you will be an official cardholder with AMEX any future applications should be a SP from then on. Just wait a few months to make sure everything clears before going for that 3rd card if that's the case. Just make sure you can reach the signup bonuses on all three cards if you can pull it off. Believe that's roughly ~$10k spend to reach in 3 months and without knowing your finances/spending ability I felt the need to point that out.

Re: Question about AMEX double dipping

Thank you so much.  That is great advice.  Yes, my spend will be way more than that, so I am good on that front.  Just don't want the 2nd HP unless I have to, and didn't know if I reached any kind of business rule limit with AMEX.  If I have to wait on the Plat Charge, I can do that. Thank you!!

Re: Question about AMEX double dipping

I know everyone’s experience could be different, but I only ever had one inquiry, back in ‘14 when I got the Platinum card. I’ve since received the EDP, Cash, Rose Gold, and SPG Luxury. They never hp’ed on any of those approvals.

I got two charge cards (PRG and green) and one revolver (EDP) all within 5 minutes. I was already a card member so there was no HP.

Re: Question about AMEX double dipping

Wow so if I already have a BCE for over 2 yrs I could get more than one card NOW with no HP?

I’m aware I could get one on a SP. I didn’t know we could get multiple at once with a SP.

My only real concern with @Anonymous based on another thread is a BK listed on her credit report. I think it's been long enough to not cause any issues but I also wouldn't be surprised if AMEX low-balls her with her possible Delta Plat approval til they get some experience/history with them first.

I don't know how I missed this post apologies there.

But yes once you're a cardholder with AMEX it will usually be a SP. Occasionally you'll see a post on here with people reporting they performed a HP but I think that is a rare enough instance to not really worry about it. As long as you follow the application guidelines on AMEX applications that can be found on websites such as Doctor of Credit (some info may be out-dated there but the general concepts are there) you'll be good to go.

Re: Question about AMEX double dipping

Thanks. I meant to ask: is it possible for me to get more than 1 additional AMEX card on the same SP? Meaning, could I app for a Delta and another BCE back to back right now if I’m preapproved for them?

Edit: that is a sweet collection of cards/limits in your sig. I’m setting new goals now!

Yes, they will use the same SP for both applications. Be aware if your scores are in flux that the SP report they use are more often than not lags behind by a month so if your scores will see improvement compared to last month's I would wait to increase your odds of approval. Also want to ask are you considering apping for another BCE or were you just using that as an example?
