Questions on Apping for new credit

So the basics here are that i have been rebuilding my credit from sub 500 over 3 years ago to today with my scores as follows all of them FICO 8

EQ - 609
TU - 613

EX - 618

Heres the low down, I have 4 collections currently registering on them 2 medical( $800)1 paid collection (citibank Radio Shack Card $370) one unpaid non med($106)

I bought a house and have a mortgage that will eventually show up .  (274,000)
I also have 2 secure cards one with 53rd and the other PNC never missed a payment for 2 years but uti is high which i can make into nothing as both are only $300 so total $600 cl.

And last but not least i have an auto laon i have been paying on since 10/13 never missed a payment 14k left on the vehicle

Now my plan of action is to erase the current util to 0 and i was planning on upping the PNC secure card amount to 2k giving me a total of $2300 of CL.

Simulator tell me that i could see gains of 40 points . I understand that is a intelligent guess but if that is even remotley true then raisin my credit lines to 2300 also says to gain me 20 points as well.

With that said I could be looking at an increase of 60 points from current standing....

Then i consider that the derogs on the account that are really hurting me as far as the lates which are from accounts in 2004 are going to fall off this month.

All of this to say, i am trying to get into a non-secure card even if it is small CL so i can grow it.

I make 130k a year just fyi for calculation sake and wonder if there is a particular card to reccomend to someone in my situaiton.

If this has already been asked and addressed then please point me to that thread.

Thanks Again.

Re: Questions on Apping for new credit

I would recommend a capital one platinum or Quicksilver one for you with those scores

I think your chances are decent for one of those unsecured cards.

Re: Questions on Apping for new credit

just to clarify I already have those two cards (53rd and PNC secure )

I am looking for an unsecured credit card that i could work into even if it is a small CL to begin with.

Re: Questions on Apping for new credit

I would not put any more money into those secured cards.  I would check Capital One pre qual site and see what they have to offer you.  I am pretty sure you can get the QS1 and Platinum with no problems.

Do not go off those score simulators, they are not accurate at all.

Thank you for the wealth of knowledge I have learned from these forums. I am logging off as of November 9, 2022. I wish everyone great success.

Yes definitely try the prequalifier and see what you can shake out. I can tell you though I'm very confident you'd get an unsecured card with them no problem. Not a large limit but it will definitely grow.

I think you "could" get one of their unsecured cards, but checking the prequal would not hurt.

Re: Questions on Apping for new credit

So i went with your ideas folks and BINGO !
Got the QS1 with $300 limit.

Didnt know if  there was a back door number or not that i could call to get them to consider raising the limits ?

Now should i apply for the platinum as well or do i just see if i can increase this or not and then go to the garden as they say ?

Thank you again, you really encouraged me to get this and it worked Smiley Happy

Re: Questions on Apping for new credit

They won't increase it. In a few months you could very well get a decent credit limit if you treat it well.
