Reusing same hard pull for 2 new cards: NavyFedCU and PenFedCU cards

I have checking/savings accounts with NFCU and PenFedCU for a while, and just applied a week ago for the Navy Cash Rewards and PenFed Powercash cards and was approved. I'm interested in other cards from both banks and would prefer to just take the new account hit at the same time (aka now), especially if the same exact hard-pull would be used for the second card application with the bank as the first card application I just put in a week ago.

Is there any way to know if it would result in an additional hard-pull, or if they'd use the existing one from about a week ago?

Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe PenFed and NFCU hit you with a hard pull when you open an account (but they do use a soft pull).  I can say for certain PenFed didn't hit me with one, and the same thing applies to the Chase accounts I just opened; no hard pull for the checking and savings account.  After opening both PenFed and Chase, I applied for one credit card from each, and that's when the HPs hit.

Edit: I just looked back at my history for TDBank; same story, I opened my accounts in May of 2020 and didn't apply for a credit card until June, that's when I got the HP from them.

Chapter 13:

  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

The outcomes are going to be YEMV for every profile. Per NFCU's DPs, it's possible that they can reuse the HP if everything on the application matches exactly as that of the first application. Having said that, it's been a while as far as individuals going back-to-back with NFCU CC apps in such a short period. Policies could have changed 🤷‍♂️

PenFed is hit or miss. Some folks have reported a 2nd HP while others only reported 1, regardless if the application was submitted online or over the phone.

Temper expectations as nothing is guaranteed.

If you apply for the card(s) on the phone, you should ask the representative. They'd have current policy information to share on whether they'd use the same HP. Best wishes.

As a counterpoint, a lot of agents are either not as informed or well-versed on their own policies. There have been reported instances on here (by angry folk) where an agent said something and it turned out to be a different outcome. Hence the above statement to temper expectations as a reusable HP is not a guarantee by any lender. Some have explicit policies, others do not.

Thanks all, helpful info. Good to know that calling and speaking to an agent won't necessarily match with actual outcome- although I suppose I could have guessed that!
