Shopping Cart Trick

When using the shopping cart trick do you have to enter your credit card information and submit before you get the Congratulatory message. I've tried the SCT with Williams Sonoma and it's not working.

Try clearing cookies.  Turn off any ad or pop up blockers.  Try using Chrome of Firefox in Ingonito (or Private) mode.

There's always the possibility that Comenity just doesn't like something your credit report for that particular card, too.

Total Cards: 24 | Total Limit: $304,250

Current FICO 8 Scores: EQ: 841| TU: 815 | EX: 814

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

You scores are WAY higher than mine and I did get (and use) the SCT on Williams Sonoma -- mostly because I do in fact shop there (20% off friends and family deal is a great value).  Only got $400.  I always shop in an Incognito browser and I wasn't shopping to get the SCT but it popped up and my purchase was for just over $400 (so I bought a gift card for the balance and sent it to myself).

Try a different browser.

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

Hate to be "that guy", but before getting any card via the SCT, I'd give some serious thought as to whether I really need said card, that is, whether I'm going to be shopping often enough at that store to make having the card worth it. Connected to that, I would also take care about applying for a large number of cards with the SCT, as we've seen quite a bit of evidence lately that Comenity is cracking down on users who have lots of cards acquired via SCT but have never really used most of them.

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

Agree with joe here -- seems like a lot of people go on SCT sprees, charge them up, and then get into trouble.  Having too many accounts to keep track of would give me a real headache.  I shop at Williams-Sonoma and the 5% rewards is better than my rewards credit cards, so it's valuable and useful to me.  Plus free shipping with the card is nice.

Since I got the card I've saved about $300 over if I had used a reward CC.  PIF so I never pay the crazy interest rate.

Just for the record, Paypal Credit is the only CC issued by Comenity that I really would like to get; I had been thinking earlier about Overstock, but having gone back recently to update my mailing address and looking at their prices, they're no longer nearly as attractive a shopping option IMO as they were back a decade ago when I used to buy a fair number of books and DVD's from them. The other stores in the Comenity stable leave me feeling "meh" at best.

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

Yeah overstock doesn't interest me and I don't use Paypal or eBay so no need for that one.  Overstock's prices are incredibly high except when you get lucky with a sale or coupon, then it can be better than Amazon and retail.

I am never in a rush to buy anything, ever, so I generally just watch prices and wait for a great deal even if it's 9 months from now.

Given this situation, i got 1 in december 16 that i have decided i probably shouldn't have or won't use enough to be even worthwhile. I have not even used it. Is it better just to close out now with no use whatsoever or at lease charge and pif at least once before closing?
