If you opted out of premarketing offers, the SCT won't work for you. Opt back in and try again in 1-2 weeks.

I don't believe I have ever opted out, and I got a pre-screened offer from BoA recently for the 99/500, which I accepted. But I have never got any other pre-screened offers. I opted in a couple of days ago just in case. I'll keep trying.

@Anonymous wrote:Yes. After being unsuccessful at every store I tried for hours, I used the exact same browser and they popped up immediately at several stores for my husband. It's not a technical thing, I'm pretty sure. I even tried from my phone and tablet and still no luck anywhere.
I just feel like Comenity hates me for some reason, and I really can't figure out why unless it's the tax lien. Because my scores and my husband's scores are extremely similar. his EQ is 1 point higher than mine and his TU is 10 points higher. Not sure about EX.
A friend of mine had a similar issue and she tried her maiden name and it started working. Does your credit report have any other names listed for you? Are you using addresses listed on your credit report (if they are different from where you are living)? I know personally my Equifax only has an old address listed for me and I've moved twice since then.
From what I've read on this forum, sometimes it can be as tricky as adding/removing a middle initial or your previous address not being reported right or updated. If your scores are similar to your husband, outside of a bad previous history with Comenity, it would seem like it's just not finding your info for a SP.
I have tried my maiden name and every address I've lived at for the last 20 years and nothing has worked. I've cleared my browser history/cookies/cache each time and used incognito. I will keep trying, but it's looking hopeless.
@PrinceCorwin wrote:So I researched the SCT and know how to do it buy still wondering if you actually need to make a purchase during the process to get a card.
So far I've gotten Pier One, Overstock, J. Crew, Victoria Secret and Williams-Sonoma and didn't have to actually purchase anything. After filling out my name/address for shipping, and before getting to the payment stuff, I got the preapproval message. If you accept, you go to another page where you fill out a bit more info (SSN, DOB, etc) and submit it to get the actual approval and starting credit limit. At that point, you can either make the purchase or just close everything and the card will come in the mail.
In a sort-of related story, I got a pre-approval letter in the mail a few months ago for a Buckle (clothing store) card. I accepted and got the card a week or so later. When I went to the store, I forgot the card and the cashier was able to look up my account info online. I just had to show my driver's license. More recently, I applied for a Gamestop card and was approved, but didn't want to wait in the mail for it. I went to my local store, asked the cashier to look my account up online and he was able to get my card info. Just make sure that if your purchase price is more than the card's limit that you let the cashier know. My Gamestop card only had a $250 limit and I got over $300 of stuff. The card got declined the first time, until I realised the purchase exceeded my limit. The 2nd time, we put $250 on the card and I paid the rest in cash.
I tried this myself after going and opting back in.
I felt a nice balance at Overstock would contribute to my utilization, plus I was already a member at Sportsmans Guide. So those are the two I picked off this list as something that I might actually benefit from.
The trick did not work for me at the above two that I desired. So I moved on down the list just to see if I could make something happen. I then immediately recieved the pop up at New York, VS, and Express. But those dont interest me and I did not accept them. I tried a few others that are more my style like Eddie Bauer and Buckle. Eventually Buckle popped up for me and I used it to buy a pair of shoes that I needed. I have a Buckle store near me at the Mall so it seemed practicle enough for me to accept the offer and the 5 dollar shipping fee. I'll pay for the shoes when the card arrives and might head to the mall next month for another transaction.
I'm on the fence as to wether to keep trying any others. I dont like the idea of adding cards I do not need. In a credit monitoring simulator my Fico score actually went down 5 points by adding a new store card. However, I am open to continuing to try Overstock and SG, but I realize that there may be something in thier particular algirythem's that do not match up well with my history.
I've used the SCT with success a couple times ... once approved, I didn't make the purchase.
OMG, I FINALLY got the SCT to work and I got $200 at Simply Be, which is one of the cards I really wanted! I can't believe it!
I will probably make one initial purchase, pay it off, and sit on it until I need something.
I"M SO HAPPY!
people get addicted to the SCT and get so many worthless accounts just because they are offered...New accounts are a new account and hurt you in some way ...do you really want that new account to be a pottery barn ect account? I save my new accounts for the prime cards myself. the only SCT I accepted was Sportsman's Guide visa.
Had SCT work for me on the VS website. Not really interested in any of the other retailers except the Orbitz Visa. Anyone find the SCT work there?
Only go SCT if you know you'll shop at the store on occasion, but if anyone's having trouble maybe try your phone instead. I got a pop on Wayfair on my phone one day and it never popped for me on my computer. I didn't take it, but there you go.
