I'm fairly new to credit cards,my oldest open account is 8 months old, my credit score is TU 726 Eq 724 Ex 698 and I have a CO with a 750 cl, Delta Gold with 1000 cl, a Best Buy with a 3000 cl, and I used to be an authorized user but the account was closed 6 months ago, otherwise it would be my oldest account (2 yrs old). Last June I applied for the Chase Freedom for not having enough accounts to establishe a credit history, and I was also denied for the Discover It after being pre approved because of inssufficient credit limit and history (back then I only had a 500 credit limit) and instead I was offered to open a joint account.
I want to test my luck again for one of those cards since I have read of a couple succesful stories after re-applying for those cards a few months after denial. For which one should I apply?
I will say go for Discover. It grows with SP CLI.
When you have better limits and longer history go with Chase cards. Good luck.
Discover is easier IMO, unless you value UO and bank with Chase
Everyone can get into Chase but, only some people get into Disco!!! If you don't want to be just another number at a big bank then swing on over to Disco Ave and join the party.
Also, take a look at my threads on them:

Once you hit a rapport with them you can easily amass quite the CL and CLI's. My last 3 total more than 18K in 4 months!!!

I have both and I would say start with Discover and then a Freedom. Discover is pretty simple with rewards structure and generous with cli, although I'm stuck with a lower limit on mine. I did open up a second card and recieved a substantial starting limit. Anyhow, Freedom is great too, but always a hard pull if the customer initiates the a credit line increase. Auto cli's do happen with freedom, but not too often. But whatever you decide can't go wrong with either one of them.
I don't have a Chase card, but with my short experience with Discover, I find their customer service to be excellent.
From just a rewards standpoint, Discover hands down because with their cash back match you're essentially getting 2% on everything that Freedom would give you 1% on, and on 5% rotating categories you are essentially getting 10% back from Discover to 5% on Freedom. After Year 1 with Discover the card is much more similar to Freedom, but for many of the reasons already outlined above (CLIs, customer service, etc) Discover would still be the winner in the eyes of most.
I have both. Discover wins. Great customer service, sp cli's and Discover Deals. The real clincher at least initially is as BBS mentioned matching cashback for the first year. That make it a no brainer!! Good luck.
Discover is the way to go! One of the best companies. Great benefits, and SP CLI's. Good luck!
