I'd be ok with $2k. I'm more worried about a $250 limit 😆

Re: Target Redcard

I thought the target card converted to Mastercard did they change it to Visa recently. Well anyways my DM has the targetcard and likes it a lot. Like others have said you just got to see if making the switch to the store card and taking those hits on your credit report are worth it for you. Best of luck to whatever path you take😊

Trend seems to be a smaller limit is more likely to get CLIs sooner than a higher limit.  I'm at almost a year and no love so far.  No complaints, 2k is enough for me, but eventually I'd like to get the Mastercard just so I don't have a store card.

Desired BK recovery line up complete 7/12/2021. Planning to garden until 8/2023 and potentially try for AMEX.

That's what I'm worried about. Any idea who they tend to pull?

Re: Target Redcard

Target is a weakness for me.  A Target CC would start to play mind tricks.  I can guarantee that would spend more with a CC than I do with my DC.

Case in point, yesterday I added a couple sports items to my cart to add to the kids backyard games.  Total was about $40.  I had also just forecasted our bank account balance for end of month.  It was about $25.  As we all know 40>25.  So I'd have to move money from savings account.   That is a no-go.  Kids didn't need it anyway.  With a CC is it tempting and a few additional items would have made the way into the cart.  Then I'd just pay the bill in July.  Another no-go for me.   I HATE month to month creep and keep it to a minimum.

Outside of security concerns I have no reason to switch.   I'm currently still comfortable with my Target DC.  Since I know Target is a weakness it helps keep my spending in check.

I shop at Target a lot and I have the debit card version of their Redcard. It's directly connected to my checking account. I've had no issues for all the years that I've had it, and I only got the debit card because my credit was crap at that time. Is there any incentive to apply for the credit version? I stopped using my debit cards for the past two years, over security concerns after coming here to the boards, but Target is the only exception. My understanding is also that it starts off as the store version and may or may not convert to the Visa version?

I personally like it. My DW and I can just buy what we need irrespective of whether we have the right cash in the right account right now. We can independently pay our share each month. We PIF.  And yes, you take a AAoA and what not hit, but at the end of the day its a great resource for US.  YMMV.  ,.,

I'm curious....what limit did you start with and have you had it for long?

@KLEXH25 A little over a year. Started at 1k.  They upped me to 2400 this past January.  Other folks have had luck with every 6 months getting an increase.  I think I know two reasons why that didn't happen for me, and that won't happen again, so....

(Ran a credit balance - ie they owed me money- for like three months in a row just with how payment timings worked.  They finally wrote me a letter and issued me a check... didn't seem like they were too pleased... and also didn't update my income every so often, which others here say is important for that card won't make those mistakes again)
