Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

seezar: I asked about a SP CLI.  Didn't mention the APR reduction.

TRC_WA: Your starting CL of $6700 tempts me to apply for the Barclays SM!  That's a good starting line from Barclays with scores in the high 600s.  From my reading on these forums anyway.  I don't want to come off like the kind of person who thinks they know for a fact after reading posts for a few hours.

I think the reason they asked about APR reduction is because it's part of the common steps to getting you to the right department. Even if you don't want one, ask for one and you might get that lucky transfer...but maybe it is just too soon for you/them.

Yeah, that's why... if you ask frontline CS then they'll tell you it's a HP no matter what. That part we know. Call them back and say that you want to inquire about an APR reduction. If things go well, they'll transfer you to an analyst who will look into that for you. At THAT point is when you can bring up if there is a SP CLI. Do NOT ask it to the frontline CS.

I was instantly approved for $4500 in December 2014... with a 665 TU.  I also had 12 months of no INQs and no new accounts.  I also had the Barclays Apple card for the previous 16 months dating back to Sept 2013 with a $2200 limit.

I moved the limit to the SM making it $6700 and then closed the Apple card.

It just goes to show you there's more to an approval than just a score.  Barclays likes history... preferably with their cards.  They don't like new accounts and INQs.

That's why I got approved with a 665 TU score.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Some folks cannot follow simple instructions. I believe many of us could care less in regards to an APR reduction. This is why we keep a credit union CC, Barclay Ring CC, or what have you. Asking for an APR reduction is simply a way to get your 'foot in the door' if you will. Never would I mention something along the lines of closing an acct. to any creditor, Barclay's especially. Barclay is notorious for 'noting the acct.' which is what they always tell me when I update income, asked for an APR reduction/CLI, etc. Having a "Customer mentioned closing acct., but didn't proceed." in the notes section isn't something I'd like having on the profile. I wouldn't like to see a CSR or a Credit Analyst to see this, which might have a negative effect on a lending relationship. Maybe I'm just, paranoid?

Yep, I can be pretty oblivious some times.  SecretAzure and seezar cleared it up for me a couple of posts up.

I don't think your being paranoid.

Unless your talking about bluffing to get something you want from customer service.  That's lying and you get what you deserve.

I'm not worried about my mentioning it yesterday.  I was very clear about the reason I was posing the question and that it was not in fact to actually cancel.  My intention was entirely for a SP CLI and I just wanted to see if he knew of another department that handled retentions.  Gathering information to help myself and others via this discussion thread.

It does read like you've decided I'm an idiot for missing the APR thing and are just picking at the rest of my post though.

Will do.  Thanks for pointing me at the target!

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Hi, I am new to the forum officially (so sorry if I sound like Rain Man at times), but have been learning from it forever!  (Not to sound like a creeper--)

I have found this forum and thread enormously helpful and wanted to contribute my experience for CLI with Barclay, for what it is worth.  I have been an Apple Financing Visa cardholder since December 2013 and a Platinum Rewards MC cardholder since April 2014.  I have been getting regular CLIs every 4-5 month, it seems.  Read this thread and called the number Baller posted but got a recording that "the offer I am calling about is no longer available"--  So I called the number on the back of my card (Rewards card) and asked for a reduction of my APR.  The rep was very nice but said unfortunately they could not reduce the APR any lower than it s at the moment.  She then started to say that soon that will change--  When I asked for clarfication, she just repeated that the APR could not go any lower.  I then asked  about my eligibility for a CLI, but a SP not HP.  She checked and asked the amount, processed the request, and approved it!  I asked about six times that it would be a SP and not hit my credit wth a HP and was reassured it was a SP--

Also found it amusing that when I initially called, the recordng instructed me to hold for the next "relatonship specialist".  Nice verbage.

I intend on calling back to do the same for my Apple Financing Visa.

I do have a question for you guys though--  I want to apply for the Sallie Mae--  Is this a good time to apply--right after a SP?  What is the best avenue to take to apply for this card, now after the SP or wait a whle?   I have  10 inq, TU and  14 Exp,  3 of which are to fall off by the end of August.   My salary is $99k/ year for reference.  Any input is appreciated.   Thanks in advance!

Good story and good insight. I wonder what the rep meant, it's a mystery, possibly forever what she was alluding to. I don't think you did anything wrong by asking for a SP. TU (Barclay pulls them for inquiries most) is inquiry sensative (from what I've heard). I'd wait until the inquiries to fall off, 10 might scare them away or maybe just start you with less. They are not the most giving with CLI's (normally) so I would wait and increase your chances of getting a really good SL. Smiley Happy

I called last week after reading this thread. I called the number on the back of the card. Spoke to a representative and asked, "I was wondering if I could have an APR reduction?" She put me on hold and I was expecting to be transferred to a "Retentions" Just under a minute she replied, "You are still currently in the 0% interest period and I would wait until this ends. Once this period ends you can call back and ask for a reduction." I said, "Thank you, do you know when this period ends? Also, what will the APR be when it does end?" She replied, "It ends on July 10th and will be at 22.99% APR." She asked, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" I asked, "Is there an offer for a SP CLI?" She said, "I would wait until you call back for the APR reduction." I figured she would turn me down for both, especially the SP CLI (the main reason I called) because she was a representative and didn't transfer me to "Retentions." I suppose I will give it another shot around the middle of July and see what happens. I will be back to update in a month or so!

Update: It's been about a month since I've called, and I haven't forgotten of course. I had originally planned to call for the APR reduction and CLI on July 10th. However, I have done a little research and have seen others in the myFICO community mention an automatic CLI and/or APR reduction on the 12th statement. So, I plan to tack on a few extra days to see if I could receive the same. I know this isn't promised, but I think I should be patient in this case. The Barclay Sallie Mae is the most used in the portfolio. I have spent $5,000 on the card since I've had it, which is actually quite a bit considering I made $19,000 last year. This averages at about $400 per month, which puts it at 20% UTL per month. Heck, one month I put a $1,000 through the card or 50% UTL. So, I hope that Barclay's notices that I not only put a lot of spend on this card, but also PIF every month. This is of course considering I have had a 12 month 0% APR promotion, that hopefully they will notice that I haven't taken advantage of (if this motivates them). So, I'll wait it out a few days. If I don't hear/see anything, then I'll give them a call. So, be on the lookout for a update on or around July 10th!

Update: The statement cut on July 10th and did not receive an automatic CLI. I'm extremely busy this week, so I'm unsure of when I will be able to call. Could be this week, could be next week. Time wise, I prefer call at a time where I can be on the phone for 30 minutes or more and be unaffected. Barclay's is typically very good when it comes to this compared to other CCCs. However, I don't have a lot of time on my hands this week during 9 AM - 5 PM (when the correct dept. is in operation) and I want to be sure it doesn't run into other things. It'll most likely be spontaneous. I might call during a lunch break if I'm feeling extra spontaneous, but I'd much rather not be on the phone during this time. We will see, I'll update once I get off the phone. Hopefully, I will return with good news.
