The manager informed me that I was calling for a APR reduction and a SP CLI. She said, "please allow me a few moment's to check your current offer's on your account". After, a few moment she states she does not seee any offer on my account, because my account is to new (2 weeks old). However, she stated "you have made very high usage of your account (76 transactions) ~$3.6k total transactions. Usually, with these types of highly valued customer we reward APR reduction and SP CLI every (3 months)." She went ahead and informed me to call back on 9/30/15, and ask to speak with the retention department for an account evaluation for APR reduction and eligibility for SP CLI.
This is definitely one of the best peices of information we have picked up in this entire thread. Have not heard anything like this so far but if that's true. One could rack up $4,000 in 3 months and call in and ask for these things and stop using the card. I had a feeling it worked like this but had no real way to verify it.
Thank you!
Got my US Airways card in January which is now a red aa card. APR is 15.99. Called number back of card ask for a lower apr. Got transfered and they were able to lower apr to 11.99. After that I ask is there a SP CLI and there was. Got 4k increase. Good stuff.
Interest rate reduced by 4%, but no SP CLI available at this time.
I have been a BarclayCard holder since 9/14/2014.
Per instructions on this thread, I called the main CS # on the back of my card (866-928-8598) and asked whether there might be an interest rate reduction available for my card.
I was encouraged when the frontline CSR indicated that he would need to transfer me to assist with my request.
The agent who next picked up was extremely friendly and helpful, and did show an interest rate reduction available for me (from 24.99% to 20.99%).
Interest rate is moot for me (I PIF multiple times per month), but was nonetheless appreciated.
She asked permission to read the required boilerplate, and I assented but indicated that I would have an additional question for her afterwards.
She indicated that the change was effective with my current billing cycle, and then asked me to confirm my home address so she could send confirmation.
After the interest rate reduction was completed, I asked her to see if there were any soft-pull CLIs available to me (as I regularly spend over $1600/mo on my $500 card, by making multiple payments per month - 15 of them in the past month at $100 each, as small payments clear the following business day (or Tues for payments made Fri-Sun), whereas larger additional payments are subject to a 5-7day hold to ensure funds clear).
I love their Rewards program - I earn $10-$15/mo, have no annual fee, and pay no interest as I PIF.
She did NOT show any soft-pull CLIs available for my account (CK shows 631 and 637; Barclay shows 591 (up from 570 on their site when I got the card last year), but my 1-yr anniversary is on Sept 14th, so she advised I call back then (or in a few weeks) to see if anything was available.
She said I should ask for the "Credit Department" for that, as she hoped they could assist me - the number she provided for that department is 866-408-4064.
I asked her what department *she* was in, and was told Retention, but that she specializes in Interest Rates.
I made it clear that Retention was never an issue for me, as I love and adore their card and Rewards program!
I then asked for her supervisor to leave kudos for her kindness and assistance, and was put through (with my permission) to her supervisor's voicemail.
All-in-all a very positive interaction, even though no SP CLI was yet available for me.
Happy to answer any questions; please let me know if I missed anything.
Call was around 1pm PDT.

Nice story.. So it is retentions when you ask for an APR reduction.. Heard this was the case but never knew for sure... Ya I never intended on leaving them, just want a lower apr and a SP CLI every month
I got a 59% increase in June after filling out an online survey from them. I was fairly critical of their CLI policy. Honestly I don't use the card. But now that they are again offering a back to school 18 month Zero % APR for Apple purchases, I will likely call them for an APR reduction and see if they can SP for an increase. I don't want to have too high of a utilization rate.
It's at least a try.
I know most people aren't going for the rate reduction but what establishes what a person's rate will be? Some are in the low teens while others are in the low 20s. I don't carry a balance so I don't pay interest but it would be nice to at least get into the low teens.
This post was started about 5 months ago on March 11th. I'm wondering if people will be able to keep doing this every month. I'll be due to try it again October 24th.

Keep us posted and let us know how it goes. I'm happy it's still happening for some. My card with Barclay isn't 6 months old yet but hope to try soon.
