Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

i called barclays after reading some of these posts.  i can now confirm when i requested a APR reduction the offered me 0% APR until july 2016 and after that my normal APR would be reduce by 1% not that great but better than nothing.. she also said i was able to get a soft pull CLI for 200.  also better than nothing.  then asked if i agreed to offers if yes would be applied to my account.. then read over a bunch of terms to me.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Two attempts - pattern seems very consistent. First time asked nicely for Soft Pull CLI out of the gate.  Got shut down - only HP. Called back a few minutes later. Asked CS for APR reduction. Got warm transfer to account specialist. She reduced APR by 1% (who cares!?), then she offerd 5000 bonus miles offer for $1000 spend in 90 days, and then i asked if there were soft pull CLI offers available. After giving my updated income she gave me a 40% CLI that has already hit my account.

Great thread - and more success

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

After reading the thread called for a Soft pull CLI. Got denied by Customer Service. Only hard pull available. Asked for a APR reduction, transfered to the Account Specialist. Got a 25% soft pull CLI and a 4% APR reduction. Asked about future CLI and said soft pull CLI's are already pre-approved to your accoount if you want any additional CLI after any pre approved amount must do a hard pull.

Thanks everyone!

Worked for me as well. Got a $1500 SP CLI. Never thought I would get something out of Barclays.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

I will admit I did not read all 37 pages of this thread, by it seems the focus is for cards other than the ring. Anyone have advice on getting a CLI on the ring, since I assuming an APR reduction is not an option?

When I started this thread this was my goal all along, to CLI Ring. I've had the card for over 6 months now but havn't tried this. I keep thinking about how I will phrase it because without asking for an APR reduction they don't send you to the soft pull CLI person.

My guess:

Hello, I was wondering if there were any temporary APR reductions available on my card/account?

I might try this but havn't put any spend on the card in 5 months so I'll wait until I have a balance on it. If anybody tries this, let me know the end result please. The amount of data we've built up on this thread has been more than I imagined it could be. Absolutely fantastic.

Thank you everyone.

I called last week after reading this thread. I called the number on the back of the card. Spoke to a representative and asked, "I was wondering if I could have an APR reduction?" She put me on hold and I was expecting to be transferred to a "Retentions" Just under a minute she replied, "You are still currently in the 0% interest period and I would wait until this ends. Once this period ends you can call back and ask for a reduction." I said, "Thank you, do you know when this period ends? Also, what will the APR be when it does end?" She replied, "It ends on July 10th and will be at 22.99% APR." She asked, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" I asked, "Is there an offer for a SP CLI?" She said, "I would wait until you call back for the APR reduction." I figured she would turn me down for both, especially the SP CLI (the main reason I called) because she was a representative and didn't transfer me to "Retentions." I suppose I will give it another shot around the middle of July and see what happens. I will be back to update in a month or so!

Update: It's been about a month since I've called, and I haven't forgotten of course. I had originally planned to call for the APR reduction and CLI on July 10th. However, I have done a little research and have seen others in the myFICO community mention an automatic CLI and/or APR reduction on the 12th statement. So, I plan to tack on a few extra days to see if I could receive the same. I know this isn't promised, but I think I should be patient in this case. The Barclay Sallie Mae is the most used in the portfolio. I have spent $5,000 on the card since I've had it, which is actually quite a bit considering I made $19,000 last year. This averages at about $400 per month, which puts it at 20% UTL per month. Heck, one month I put a $1,000 through the card or 50% UTL. So, I hope that Barclay's notices that I not only put a lot of spend on this card, but also PIF every month. This is of course considering I have had a 12 month 0% APR promotion, that hopefully they will notice that I haven't taken advantage of (if this motivates them). So, I'll wait it out a few days. If I don't hear/see anything, then I'll give them a call. So, be on the lookout for a update on or around July 10th!

Update: The statement cut on July 10th and did not receive an automatic CLI. I'm extremely busy this week, so I'm unsure of when I will be able to call. Could be this week, could be next week. Time wise, I prefer call at a time where I can be on the phone for 30 minutes or more and be unaffected. Barclay's is typically very good when it comes to this compared to other CCCs. However, I don't have a lot of time on my hands this week during 9 AM - 5 PM (when the correct dept. is in operation) and I want to be sure it doesn't run into other things. It'll most likely be spontaneous. I might call during a lunch break if I'm feeling extra spontaneous, but I'd much rather not be on the phone during this time. We will see, I'll update once I get off the phone. Hopefully, I will return with good news.

Update: I called today because I had an open window of time. Like I had originally thought, the call was short with Barclay's prompt customer service. Unfortunately, the Relationship Manager said that the current 22.99% APR is the best that Barclay can offer me. She said something like, "...Barclay reviews your acct. periodically..." and that "...you may have offers in the future..." She also said, "I would recommend you call back in a month or two and check to see if we have any offers." I told her that I understand and that's fine. I asked if there was a CLI available. She gave me the whole 'spiel' that it would be a HP and 'yada yada yada'. I kindly told her no thank you and that I appreciate her time.

I know Barclay doesn't like new accts., I'm well aware of this. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was a contributing factor here. I've had the Barclay Sallie Mae for 1 year and since than I have added 4 new accts. I understand their hesitation completely and I'm not at all upset. I thought about talking to her about how it's the most used card in the portfolio, but I figured Barclay doesn't care. Maybe next time I will talk to them about what might be the reasoning that they're unable to lower the APR or extend more credit. Is it too many new accts., not enough income, need more history with lender, etc.? If new accts. are the factor, then it will be quite a while before I fit this criteria as I plan to acquire a couple more cards that I have been 'eye balling' for a while. I almost have every card I want, but I'm not there yet.

Anyhow, I will quit rambling on. I'll do what she said and call back in a month. Expect an update on or after August 15th.

So I've been busy the past few months and haven't had a chance to call Barclay. Anyway, to save time from having to repeat myself. Below is a link to the approval for a SP APR decrease and CLI.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Today was the second time I called and asked to speak to an account specialist about lowering APR and soft pull cli. I was successful again. Lowered APR 1% and got a 50% cli of 2500 bumping me up from 4500 to 7000! YES!

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Thank you to everyone on this thread! It has been so helpful for me. For anyone wondering about a SP CLI on the Arrival+ I just got one yesterday.

I got the card in April 2015, put about $24k spend through it since then and pay in full every month. $10k ---> $13k on the phone with the first rep just by asking if there were any offers on my account and verifying my updated income.
