Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

I have a Barclays rewards card. I opened it exactly six months ago. The starting limit was $2,000. I called in the other day and asked for an APR reduction. She said I'm sorry that's the lowest we have. I said ok and then I asked for a credit line increase. That's when she finally transferred me to somebody else. They asked me a bunch of information about my income about my bankruptcy and how much I'm using per month. She also grilled me about my inquries which I received because of buying a car this month. After I bought the car I had quite a few inquiries on TransUnion. Then after giving her the information, she asked me how much increase I wanted. I didn't want to push my luck so I told her I wanted $5000 dollars. She came back and said congratulations I can approve you for the $5,000. I asked her again about the APR reduction and she declined. My APR is extremely high I think it's like 26% but it's okay if I don't carry a balance. This is my first time asking Barclay for a credit line increase and it went well :-)

So was it a sp or a hp?

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

I was approved for a Sallie Mae Rewards card in July 2015, and almost like clockwork after the 6th statement cut in January this year they emailed me to let me know that they increased my CL by $3300 (SL was a meager $1300) - this was definitely a SP as I have no new inquiries from them, and most definitely did not request anything.

This begs the question though... how long should I wait before calling in for the old "APR reduction -> SP CLI" trick?

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

I was approved for the Barclay Arrival March 2015 with a 5k limit.  October 2015 I was given a 0% APR on purchases though statement date June 2016.  Second week of January I was giving an auto CLI of 4.5k to 9.5k total.  I haven't spoke with customer service since October so all is good.  I've never carried a balance on this card until this month.  I put all my medical bills on the card in january and I'm going to just pay the minimum down until my 0%APR is over.  I'm keeping all my money in my HSA until I get my insurance check to pay it off.  I've always like Barclay because I can take advantage of their promotions like this.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

I'm starting to wonder if the Barclay SP CLI well is drying up. The last time that I had sucess with this was in April of '15. I tried again in October and January but didn't have any luck. Called a number that I found that is supposed to goto the Retentions Department. That just put me into the normal routine for account info. Got a representive on the phone that could have been the old "Peggy" from Capital One. Asked her if there were any promotions available for the account. Maybe a lower APR, 0% offer or SP CLI. She looked on her end and said no. That is what happened to me last time. At this point I asked if I could be transferred to the Retentions Department. She said she could do that then I heard her typing. I know she was entering notes that she told me "no". Kind of like when kids ask their Dad something then goto their Mom if they don't get the answer they want. She put me on hold for about 30 seconds then came back to say she could't transfer me. I asked for a direct number. She started to say that they don't have a direct phone number to that departement then the line went dead. Coincidence? Maybe... not!  This is as far as I got so far. I'm going to call back because I was "accidentially" disconnected.

Okay, just called back and somehow ended up with an American representive. She looked into the account and said that there aren't any offers available at this time. She said they could process a CLI request with a HP but I declined that. Maybe I'll try again in the future but I think I'll mostly be waiting to see if something happens on it's own.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Hello All,

I used that APR % reduction trick and it worked to reduce from 14.84% to 10.5% APR for purchases on Sallimae WMC. Also checked for SP CLI, but just got $500 increase to my existing CL of $2k. Now it becomes $2.5k CL on this card. I was hoping atleast 2k increase, but this is what i got. I have been using this card from Nov,2014. This is the first CLI increase in last 15 months. i regularly put $500 on purchases and PIF.

Anyways something is better than nothing.

Thank you all.

Re: The BarclayCard CLI Soft Pull thread

Called in today, asked for APR reduction, got transfered, and then also asked for an SP CLI. Got my APR dropped from 23.24% -> 19.99% and only a $200 CLI :/ I'm not sure why Barclay is so damn stingy with me. I've had the card since December 2014 with a CL of $500 and have never recieved an auto-CLI despite using it every month. Sad, but it's better than nothing.

It sure is better than nothing. I called yesterday and got NO APR reduction and NO CLI...lol

I called just over a year ago (my previous post is further back in this thread) and I got both an APR reduction AND a $1500 CLI from $4500 to $6000.  Since then, my TU08 FICO has improved from the high 600s to 740, and they upgraded me to the WMC a few months ago...so I really was hoping for a CLI yesterday. YMMV I guess.

Thanks for the data point! Maybe this is limited in some way to 1 per year or something similar. Congratulations on the much improved credit score, 740 is good enough for just about everything you'll need credit for. Smiley Happy

Congratulations on the CLI and if the rest of your profile is very solid, you may be able to get an APR redux in steps after the card hits one year. My Rewards is now at 16.24%, but I had to do that in a series of two steps that were months apart, once the card had reached one year of age. Good luck. Smiley Happy
