@Anonymous wrote:I was approved for my AMEX account on 11/10/2015, I received and activated the card on 11/13/2015 and was able to get a 2x CLI.
Based on the information in this thread, there is a chance that I may be able to obtain a 3x CLI 6 months after my first CLI, but I have 2 questions:
1. The 6 month clock started on 11/13/2015, correct?
2. Are my chances of receiving a 3x CLI low due to
a) hardly putting any real spend on this card? I did make large purchases ($1,000 and $1500)
b) currently having a balance of $1700/$2000? My closing date is 5/12 and hopefully by then the card balance will be $1500/$2000
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I received an auto CLI on 2/10/16 from $3k to $7k on my Delta Gold Amex. Do I still have to wait 6 months before requesting a 3X CLI? Thanks.No. Auto CLIs are not user requested so they don't reset the clock. You just need to wait 6 months adfter any CLI you requested and was approved.
Thanks very much! I'll give it a try.
Okay... two more questions:
I want to pull the trigger on the Amex 3X CLI but want the best chance of approval. I was recently pre-approved for a 5/3 Bank MasterCard and received it a couple of weeks ago with a $7K credit line. Should I wait until my FICO score is updated to reflect the new 5/3 account before going for the Amex 3X CLI request?
Also, my Amex payment is due on the 9th. Should I make a payment first before requesting the CLI, or does it really matter?
Great thread, great advice!
Thanks very much..

Neither really matter much if anything. I'd just go ahead and apply if you're ready.

I requested the 3X CLI up to $24K (starting limit was $8k) and Amex countered with $16k which I accepted. Nice!
Thanks for the intel!
Thanks Irish. I appreciate the answer!
Thanks, Data point for those whom it applies:
I just tried for the increase and got the 7-10 day message. Gave them a call and asked the reason. She said "you have to wait 3 months after last CLI attempt".
Thing is the only other increase attempt I tried was at card activation on March 12th, and that got declined for Account Too New. So I guess even being declined for "account too new" starts the 3 month timer.
Good news is she said this "denial" doesn't change the date so I can try again on June 12th, 3 months from the previous try at activation.
