@Anonymous wrote:Awesome, congratulations! Was the $28k what you originally entered in, or did you start higher and work your way back until $28k yielded an instant approval?
Thanks! I just went with the $28K from the beginning.
Just my data points.
10k to 25k (all I asked). Instant approval - though funny enough I asked for a CLI apparently 2 weeks too soon and got denied, though the site had no record I asked for one.
Called in and was told to wait till after Jan 1 - and voila!
Other than the holidays where I charged almost 2k I average maybe 300 in monthly charges. PIF, the holiday spree in multiple payments.
Don't think I have the guts to go asking past $40k in 6 months - don't want to stand out seeing how income is only 75k
Love Amex! Pads my line after CapOne reduction!
Does AMEX have an amount limit on 3x CLI? Is there a certain amount where one is sure to be denied? Also, I've read in the past that they can ask for tax documents to be supplied for CLI requests above $25,000. Is that still the case, and is it a guarantee that a request over $25,000 will trigger a tax form request before approval?
@iDShaDoW wrote:Randomly looked at my spreadsheet today and noticed I had went past the 6 month periods for requesting my next set of CLI's.
Just went from $68K on my BCP to $73.3K. Had asked for $85K, $75K, etc. and kept getting the same $73.3K and took it.
Should have asked for $73K even, but oh well.
Gonna have to go for an even number 6 months from now. No 4506T yet! /knock on wood
Have you ever had to supply tax information after requestimg an increase? I'm currently at $19,000 and haven't requested an increase in a year and a half (actually, I didn't even ask then, it was an auto) but want to ask again now, and am wondering exactly how much I should go for without having to send it in. Should I ask for $25,000 or go for a 3x increase? Or somewhere in between?
@Anonymous wrote:Sweet, nice 3X CLI. You should be able to grow that card nicely. Don't be shy in going for $18k the next time you request!
Is there a limit on the amount you can get approved for using the 3x request?

@Anonymous wrote:Amex has a threshold at $35k that most run into that involves a POI prompt. My suggestion for your next CLI attempt in 6 months would be to go to $30k, then try walking your limit up by $5k every 6 months from there going foward. That's what I did to take my limit up to nearly $60k without having ever to provide POI.
Is $35k the definitive answer? I've read between $25-35k at different points throughout the thread before the 4506T request. Guess it really doesn't matter which one it is if you can still hit the back button and try again when it comes up!
This is good info. I read elsewhere that it was $25,000. I'm currently sitting at $19,000 and am trying to figure out how much to request without a trigger. Any suggestions?
@Anonymous wrote:Signed up to share my experience getting limits above 24-25k without tax forms, since that info gets a little buried in this thread.
Background; 2 players, 2 BCE cards
~1st player; 800+ fico, has been 850 at times.
~2nd player; 750-805 fico, no negative strikes, just lack of credit history.
First things first, use the 3x rule every 6 months to get your limit to 24-25k. This seems to be the first limit.
~1st player CLI; 24.5k -> 34.5k -> 39k (forgot to try 39.5) Shows 43k due to a cruise refund, will be interesting if that helps the next CLI.
~2nd player CLI; 24k -> 34k -> 39k
The denial, and the BACK button. When you request too high and get the screen that says "A letter with our decision will be mailed in 7-10 days", hit the browser BACK button to get back to the account services page. Then request another lower CLI. The first time I did this I was at 24k and went for 3x = 72k, then 71k, 70k, -1k each request just to make sure I wasn't leaving CLI on the table. You will get about 50 letters in the mail for each denial.
Thank you for this thread and I hope this helps someone. If anyone has limit help above where we are at, I'd love to hear it. But I'm guessing I might be stuck at 5k CLI from here on out. What are the limits people have received giving AMEX your tax info? What is the highest without?
Do you think it matters whether you are carrying a balance or not when requesting?

Reporting a balance, probably not so much especially if there is an established track record with AMEX of allowing a balance to report and then PIF. Carrying a balance, likely.
To answer the questions posed about the most likely threshold to trigger a 4506-T request , emperically it appears to be $35K although the actual number would be based on one's individual profile as well as spending/payment habits.

So, I took the plunge today, and requested an increase from $19,000 to $34,500 and received the "You will receive notice of our decision in the mail within 7-10 business days" message. I then did what I learned in this thread, hit the back button, and made another request, this time, lowering my amount to $30,000 and I was instantly approved! Woo hoo! Also, as another data point, I am currently carrying a $5000 balance.
What card do you have?
