Toyota Comenity Card decline question

I saw a link on here for a SP pre-approval on the comenity bank Toyota reward card. I tried it and it showed a pre-approval amount. I decided to proceed to the full application with an HP. It didn't give me an answer immediately, so I knew we had an issue.

A couple of weeks later I receive a letter and it says I need to call to confirm my identity. I called the number and the agent asked my info and said that’s all that was needed, and I was confirmed. He then told me it doesn’t show him approval/rejection info and that would come in the mail.

A couple more weeks pass, and I get a rejection. Says reason is they can’t confirm my identity. I call customer service and they can't tell me anything. Only option is to reapply and receive another HP.

Is it worth another HP to reapply (preapproval was I think $450)? Why would this happen?

You were denied because you answered the security questions wrong. If you were confirmed and approved they would have told you on the phone. They probably just told you that you were confirmed and they couldn't see the status because they didn't want to break the news over the phone.

I would call them again and see if they would reconsider the application.

Should I consider reapplying?

You think another person could get it reconsidered? I did call 1 time and they said it can't be reconsidered.

Since you already took the hard pull, It does not hurt to try again ... they can only say "No"

Don't re-apply, but rather call in. Maybe even ask for a supervisor?

I would advise against it.  At this point you don't know if you misunderstood a security question, gave a wrong answer because you forgot or misremembered something, or there is misinformation in your credit or consumer reports.

What I would suggest is because you were denied you're entitled to a free copy of your credit report from the CRA they pulled from (you can get a free copy weekly nowadays from all 3 majors anyway).  Take advantage of the opportunity to pull your reports and check them carefully for inaccuracies.  While you're at it also request a copy of your LexisNexis consumer report and check that for inaccuracies as well.  You can dispute off errors.

Once you know that your files contain factual and correct information you shouldn't have a repeat.

This ^^^ OP

Unfortunately, Comenity doesn't reconsider declined applications even if the denial reason was due to identity verification (i.e. failing to answer any identity questions correctly).  So, no need to burn another HP.   But, most definitely check your third party reports such as LexisNexis and SageStream, as suggested.

Agreed with the two posters above. And no, taking two HPs for a $450, likely high APR card is definitely not worth it.

I would 6 months and try again.  The same thing happened to me. After the second try I was approved,
