Just wanted to update @Aim_High on my cli request. Made attempt on my 6 month anniversary from my last $8k increase. Got 24 hour review. Gave it the full 24 before calling and rep confirmed it was indeed denied. Just to reiterate what I was saying last time about even having a substantial amount of funds in one of their CD's along with long credit history with them still generated a denial. Although to their defense I have acquired a couple of PL's since my last attempt which is carrying larger balance to where DTI ratio could come in to play. No biggie, as from most reports increases have been lowered to $4k max since the pandemic started. I will try them again by end of year as I am determined to have access to $80k max cc exposure. 😁

Awwww ... Dangit. Sorry to hear of the CLI denial, @credit_endurance. Yes, Navy has clamped down on lending for sure. I have heard that like many credit unions, they may be sensitive to that DTI ratio so it could have further influenced the decision but I'm guessing the pandemic had much more to do with it. In my long recon letter to Navy, I made many points but one was that my DTI ratio is actually quite low since I know they look at that. I also explained how much I had accelerated payments on installment loans (mortgage and a car loan I paid off last year), and explained why they had seen some higher balances on a couple of cards including the large BT I did after I got the Platinum card, solely to build repayment history. Of course, a little 'sucking up' about how great they are and how I want to build a relationship with them didn't hurt either!
It may or may not work but I gave them my best shot.
Hang in there. We'll both get to the $80K maximum exposure with them, but it just takes some time and for the economic climate to stabilize.

Thanks @Aim_High!! I like your approach to it all. Look forward to hearing the outcome from your recon letter! All the best! 😁
Thank you for sharing. Hopefully, you'll get an approval after 91/3.

Actually, I'm well over 91/3, which is part of my surprise at the denial! I've had my original (Platinum) card since November 2019, so the denial for the More Rewards was after 231 days (over 7 and a half months).
@Aim_High I am sorry for the decision. I suggest you pick up the phone and attempt a recon. I would like to lean towards this is a COVID based decision and Navy is trying to leave some money in the pool for those young active duty service men and women to have a chance at attaining something. Call them and talk about it I wish you a successful recon.

The next day I hit 101/4, requested 25k CLI on my MR Amex (15k CL) and waited 3 days to see a 4K CLI to 19k. I then app'd for the Platinum and auto denied. Could be due to auto app but Still waiting for denial letter and I'll update this post with reason codes.
Congrats on your success with the auto loan and the CLI! That $4K is typical right now, so you did well. Sorry to hear about the Platinum denial. As noted in this thread and elsewhere, Navy has tightened up their underwriting a bit. You might try a reconsideration as well. How long have you been a member?
Got my denial letter regarding Platinum app : "You've reached Navy Federal's maximum unsecured credit limit". Navy internal score 291 used. . I also received a letter on the CLI partial denial: "You've reached navy federal maximum unsecured credit limit. However, we increased your credit limit to $19,000.00." Equifax FICO9 765 used (instead of 25k).
This is my only card with navy and I requested CLI before apping Platinum. I have had a lot of inquiries of recent and new credit opened in last 3 months and 17 days. I was going to garden but instead I sent a secure message with the following verbiage:
"Hello, After careful review of the reason for denial regarding the Platinum Visa, "You've reached Navy Federal's maximum unsecured credit limit," please request underwriting to consider opening the new card by reallocating a credit line in the amount of $5,000.00 from my existing More Rewards American Express card. I value my membership with Navy Federal and the long history my wife and I have with Navy FCU. Thank you for the reconsideration."
we shall see. I figure it can't hurt to ask. I'm hoping you have success with your recon snail mail letter.
I waited 7 days with no response on the secure message requesting reallocation to open the Platinum card. I called in on yesterday day 7 and a CSR tagged my request urgent. I woke up this morning to see a secure message reply. They approved my Platinum app for $3000 and decreased my credit limit on my MR Amex from 19k to 14k. Not exactly what I requested, actually just lost 2k CL, but I feel like a win in the long term. No wasted HP and future SP CLI's to get CL back up. Hope you get better or similar results bud! Thanks for posting this.
UPDATE:
My Platinum card showed up in my Navy Mobile App and it shows a 5k limit. Turns out they did reallocate what I had requested. Hope this data helps anyone who gets a denial reason "reached maximum unsecured credit" and still want another card. Navy opened my 2nd card using reallocated CL from 1st card to get app approval.
Comes at a high 17.99% which kind of defeats the purpose of the Platinum card. I'll have to clarify if 0% intro rate still in effect.
@Aim_High Ended up getting the increase. See this thread!
