Re: Walmart Credit Card - Why!?

I applied for a Walmart Credit Card with a 635 TU score and was approved with a SL of $400. That was with 10-13 baddies, consisting of late payments, charge-offs, and collection accounts. However, all accounts with late payments were brought current, all charge-off accounts were over 5 years old, and all collection accounts were paid/ 0 balance. Several accounts with over 7 year history in good standing and less than 6% utilization. The whole point is, everyone's profile is totally different. Who knows why some companies grant credit to some, but not others. I've had the card for 2 months and my credit limit has increased from $400 to $3500. However, some creditors have denied my CLI requests and will continue to do so, which I completely understand. So, yeah...this is my 2 cents. Best Wishes!

Current FICO 8s: Ex 768, Tu 741, Eq 741
Current FICO 9s: Ex 775, Tu ?? Eq 781
Total TLs: $120,000
8 (30-60 day) mortgage lates and 2 (30 day) auto lates remain from Jan., Feb. 2016
Current Mortgage Ex. Fico 2 787

Re: Walmart Credit Card - Why!?

Yet another note to hang in there OP!  Synchrony is an odd bunch, for sure.

I got my WM like AJC with a sl of $150. I think my TU was around 620. Took 9 months for an auto CLI to $400. And so far it won't go any higher. Yet my TJ Maxx just got bumped to $2,000.  It's weird but hey, I'll take it for now.

Capital One Savor: $8,000; Mission Lane: $4,500; Nordstrom Visa: $3,300; AAA Daily Advantage: $2,700; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $2,000; Capital One: $550 (reallocated $2k to Savor)

Store/Other: Care Credit $7,500; LOFT: $3,000; Kohls $2,500; Home Depot: $1,500; Target: $1,100; Amazon: $1,000

@MrsCHX

They might have got approved but I see the SL are from 150.00 to 300.00. I bet OP would be alot happier if they wait until they can get their scores up and get a higher SL etc.

Believe me it takes time.

This is 100% True. I'm so tired of the puny little CL's... I want a big one..even $5000 would be an amazing jump for me. I only forsee my Local CU Credit Card to be the one to possibly give me that jump first, as I originallly requested $500 limit and then a $1000 and was approved for the CLI,  however their CLI's are hard pulls so I have to be strategic as to when to request a CLI for them... Not sure if I should do it once a year, or once every 6 months.. Son of a biscuit..I only took me 7 months to destroy my credit, but boy has it taken me 2+ years of cleaning it up to get it to the score it's at now..ugh

I think most of us on here can say We understand because something on our files made us to come on here and seek out for help and answers to make our files better.

It took me about 6 years to get my files clean after my mother messed up my credit etc

Synchrony really did helped me, They were the first who trusted me and gave me my first $5000.00 limt but it took awhile it's like my lowes started out $300.00 in about a year it jumped up to a $20,000.00 limit. So just know it will get better soon if you keep up the hard work Smiley Happy

Yep. It takes time. But one day the flood gates will open!

At the start of 2016 I had $700 in available credit and now I have $16,200. By next April I'll have all clean reports and can hopefully get a couple of large limit majors (hellloooo Venture One and hopefully AMEX BCE!) and can dump some store cards and Merrick...and combine my QS and QS1.

Marathon not a sprint. I just keep repeating it to myself ;-)

Re: Walmart Credit Card - Why!?

WHY are you so focused on low hanging fruit?

WM / Synch is not quite bottom of the barrel but, do you really want to have a portfolio of 10 store cards?

Where do you want to be in 3-5 years when it comes to your portfolio?

The reason you're seeing the denials and crap limits is due to applying for too much too soon and not letting things mature enough to garner better results.  Yes, everyone needs to start somewhere but, once you get the ball rollign you have to sit back, quit applying, and come up with a PLAN.  Right now you're 50/50 store vs bank card.  It's time to start thinking bigger than just an approval to scratch your itch for an approval.

Why shoot for 650 when you can hit 700 or 800?  With your auto loan you're sporting 2.32% which is amazing considering your scores.  I don't know how you pulled that off when I had a 740 and bought a new vehicle and got 2.9%.  Anyway... different profiles, different results.  While you got the better rate there's room to grow on the CL's on your cards.

Credit is a mindset and setting bar too low can kick you in the @$$ if you're not watching out or focusing on the bigger picture.  When starting from $0 it's hard to see that there's more to it than approvals and accumulating junk cards just for the sport of nabbing them.  We all started somewhere and some of us have reset once or twice with a BK from bad decisions while going down the same path.

Sit down and take a hard look at where you want to progress to before chasing after something you're apt to throw away after a couple of years.

Re: Walmart Credit Card - Why!?

I was recenlty approved for a starting limit of $1,200 with a score below 640, but all of the inquiries on my report were over a year old. Not sure if that matters. I also have a few charge-offs and collections from years ago.

And this was after I was declined twice last year.   Smiley Wink
