When to apply for next Amex CREDIT card? (UPDATE: Declined)

Have had an Amex Gold CHARGE card since August 2019 (7 months).

Spend about $5,000 to $7,000 every month on it.

Pay it in full (or close - I have a very small 'pay-it-later' balance)

A couple months ago I applied for an Amex Delta credit charge and was declined. One of the reasons was "Not enough history with American Express" or something like that.

Do you think 7 months is long enough now?

I like the points on my Amex Gold, but I want the extra credit limit of the credit card to bolster my utilization.

670 to 680 on all bureau's.

Or if anyone has any suggestions for a card that would give me a decent starting limit, I would be open to another.

Currently have Chase, Capital One, Discover and AMEX.

Largest Credit Line is $2,500 (other than the Amex, which is unlimited - but doesn't count).

Open to suggestions.

If it's possible to get in with Navy Federal I would try there. Also I have been seeing pretty high limits from BECU, can also try DCU as an alternate. Honestly I think it will vary, even some people with super high scores get lower limits. But as far as the time I think if you applied for another AMEX it "should" be granted.

Quite possibly, Yes.

But with AMEX it doesn't hurt to look to see if you are pre-approved -- just sign-in to your account and go check out the card you want. Hit the APPLY NOW button. If you see: "The _Rooster, you are pre-approved!" then you are.

If it says anything else, then back to the waiting game. Or check out another AMEX card. Usually now I am pre-approved on all of them, but early on that wasn't the case. I was pre-approved for some but not others.

I think that's long enough.  Since you're in with Amex you can easily tell if you're approved and bonus points it will likely only be a SP approval.

The no annual fee Everyday is a good card to have when you also have a charge card.  It is a back-up to hold onto your MRs if you ever need to close the charge.  You might find the 25k/2k offer.  I was approved for that myself 6 months after I got my Gold.  I had previously been denied due to lack of Amex history just like you described.

7 months should be long enough but it will depend on credit scores probably.   You just have to keep looking at their prequal site to see if you are approved for anything.

Re: When to apply for next Amex CREDIT card?

It's likely that Amex may very well approve you for a revolving account.  Rather than getting something to simply bolster your utilization, I would look for a card that makes long-term sense for you, however, and either complements your Gold Card or fills other gaps in your rewards strategy.  With your scores, I would temper expectations for large starting lines.  Outside of perhaps NFCU, it's not very common to see large starting lines in that score range unless perhaps you have significant financial assets with a given company.  However Amex grows with you as your scores continue to improve.
