1st Unsecured Card! Cap 1 Quicksilver

Just thought I'd share my success story. Was playing around on Cap 1's pre approval, and it came back with the QS, QS 1 and Secured. I read on reddit to always go for QS and not QS1 if you can, so I decided to apply...Approved!!!

Got approved for a $3000 limit. This is my first unsecured card in...I honestly don't even know how long, haven't had one since I graduated 6 years ago as I've never had a need for one, and my credit was always in the bin so could never get approved.

The APR is trash, but that doesn't bother me as I'll basically use it as a charge card. I have two secured cards through Navy Federal....would ya'll suggest keeping those two at zero and use the Cap 1?

Either way I'm excited!!

@Anonymous, one of the adages you'll see around here from time-to-time is Finances>FICO; basically, do what makes financial sense first, then do what helps your FICO scores second.

SImilar to you I have a card from PenFed and a Quicksilver card from CapOne; when I'm paying for something which will trigger a cash-back reward higher than the 1.5% offered from the QS, then I pay with the card which has the highest reward; if none of my cards offer 1.5% or better for the purchase in question, then I pay with the QS card.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

Congratulations. I like Capital One, and the app is simple and friendly to use. I rebuilt my credit with them, she's a keeper.

Very nice limit, most people get low limitsSmiley Wink. By chance why 2 secured Navy cards? You only need one to establish credit lol.

Two reasons. 1- I've always known that three CC are better to have, as proven by this board and its teachings. However it was the only secured card I could get approved for. Discover, BOA, local CU and even Cap 1 always denied me for them (when I say my credit was in the bin, it was deep in there.). Even sub-prime like Credit One denied me.  So about 8 months ago I decided to open a smaller secured card with Navy Fed.

2- I hoped it would get me a better relationship with them in hopes of getting approved for their cash rewards card. I'd already successfully finished two SSL with them, so was trying to leverage that with them hopefully one day.
