Re: JC Penney credit card

It won’t stay at $100. A lot of us here started with $100-$500 limits and got huge credit limit increases after a few months. My PayPal MC started at $300 and after 3 statements it’s now $8000. Synchrony can be real generous with CLIs. YMMV though.

Re: JC Penney credit card

Did you apply online or in-store?   Also, do you know your TU score was?

When I was in the low 600s, I was approved for $250 on my JCP card.  It was my first card post-BK that didn't have an AF, so I was thrilled.   That card is now my second oldest active CC and has a $15K CL.   So yes, you can definitely grow in time.

"Permanent" in this case means your full approved CL.   When you apply online, you sometimes get a small "Temporary" line that allows you to make some purchases.

With your credit profile, I recommend letting 4 statements post, and then trying the LUV button ("Request More").   The first time I did that, I went from $250 to $750!  I was so happy about my experience that I wanted to learn how to make it happen again.   And that led me here to MyFICO.

Re: JC Penney credit card

Welcome to the forumSmiley Happy Congrats on getting a Pennys card. When i started my rebuild, after Fingerhut, JC Penny was the first card that approved me in store for $500, lolwut!. Couldnt believe it. My ignorance let me think because i went bk 8 years previous i couldnt have a credit card because i was in bankruptcy.

My first approval with Macys on my rebuild was also $300. Both cards can grow nicely with time. My Pennys now sits at 12k and my Macys at 10k. Thats alot of underwear lol but in my opinion two of the better store cards to have. Again welcomeSmiley Happy

Re: JC Penney credit card

If you are rebuildng your credit, just remember you wont need 20 store cards or everything under the sun if theyll approve. Be selective , pick cards that will work for your spend and lifestyle. For maximizing your score you really only need 3 credit cards, anything else is just gravy.

With your score low, make sure to attack any baddies, or negatives on your report , and use your cards responsibly by trying to always pay on time. I find , the hard way at times, try to buy things you honestly feel you can pay off at the end of the month. This way you dont get stuck paying interest, especially with store cards.

Any question in regards to your credit journey dont hesitate to make a post, some great people here who are willing to help as most of us have had to start a newSmiley Happy
