Re: Just turned 18 approved

Right you are about keeping utilization low! That has been drilled into my head for years! Especially under covid 19 conditions. My parents are super helpful and having a dedicated account to run my cards through is really genius for me anyhow.
Third card is on hold until I learn to swipe and pay for at min six months- I have no students loans - unless I screw around at college- I won't - my parents again are super helpful and just want me to focus on college for now.
I can play with my zigy when I am done with my AP exams and will post scores and my approvals.  Oh, Discover just emailed me and it has shipped- so look for that card in my zigy soon

So, I took a peek and it looks like I am not a member yet just a visitor- can not have a zigy yet? I don't k is if that is correct- I would like to post scores and such. I enjoy my time on the boards and plan to hang around a bit.

You'll have to make your way through the ranks. You need to be a member, so stick around and continue to post and learn, and you'll be a member before long.

Re: Just turned 18 approved

Yes, just a lowlife visitor 🙄😪

I called capital One to check on stats for my card shipping or whatever - they are not taking phone calls - ok - ? I will check in and bother them some more later. Banks most be overwhelmed- so scary if that's true.
plan to chime in on post to help raise my ranks. Thanks all for wonderful feed back and supporting comments.

Re: Just turned 18 approved

I was actually thinking what card should I have if I was 18 again!

Have to say AMEX Gold Card. Its metal, its gold, its shiny lol.😎 I'm sure the new generation can figure out how to maximize the benefits even with annual fee. But its a charge card and forces discipline on spending. Most people start off paying everything with no interest on cards, and then after couple of years boom... high interest on high utilization.

By having charge card you'll avoid the temptation of buy things that you can't afford!

I only see credit veterans displaying Amex Charge cards and not many young or new to credit!

Not sure if they still do it, but in the past a mod would add in the info for someone occasionally. Mods can do that.

Part of the reason you only see veterans of credit with it in their siggy, is because those cards require higher scores to obtain. They theoretically have not got limits, so if your credit is good enough you can put a new car on that card. If a cardholder needs restrictions to help control their impulses to get in trouble, they really need to work on their self discipline. Human beings are often creatures of habit, I know I am. I never could stop being habitual in the way I handled credit, so I made myself PIF every card, every month, until I established that as a habit. Now it bugs me to see any unpaid balance, which leads me to pay it in full before the statement even cuts. I just had to set rules for the cards with an actual checklist for every time I was using it at first. Rule number 1 was to never charge anything that I did not already have the funds elsewhere to pay for. Rule 2 was never use a card to buy anything I would not buy if I had no cards. As time went by, I no longer had to physically check off my rules on paper, because it had become a habit that the rules were followed. Over 10 years later the rules are still followed.

Re: Just turned 18 approved

Jaffa,

Hi, how are things going?  What have you been doing to build your credit ? As you know I have applied to Caoital One. Not only have I had thier kids checking account for years, I have also been an AU on parents cards too. Now they are acting like they have not a clue as to who I am! They are asking for 3 forms of ID, first Born Child and some blood (just kidding), but so much for new relationships right? So, how is the credit world treating you? oh BTW Discover card for students easy peezy! They know how to treat a kid! ha
