AMEX MSD Change Question.

I got my first American Express credit card in March 2015 - the EveryDay card. I am OCD about credit and I know with all my talk about it I drive my family and friends crazy. I just want them to understand the importance of good credit and starting early.I teach them or try to that credit doesn't have to be about being in debt with that you can make credit work for you. I visited my grandfather on my birthday the other day and obviously I brought up the topic of credit. To my surprise my grandfather was very excited to talk about it and is a credit preacher himself. I told him that I recently joined the American Express family. He was very excited for me and had him informed me that this wasn't my first American Express card. I was very confused, "grandpa what do you mean?". He went on to tell me that when I stayed with them after high school and with helping taking care of my grandmother while he was at work that my grandmother and add me on as an authorized user on her card so that I could run to the store and do other errands for her. Now thinking about it I do recall me always running to the Walgreens a couple blocks away picking up whatever items my grandma needed but back then I doubt I even looked at the card and probably assumed it was her debit card. Sir my grandfather and I talked about it for a while. The primary reason they got a card for me was so the vendor is specially the one at Walgreens he knew my grandmother wouldn't give me any problems using the card. After the story I got excited telling him that it may be possible for me to get my member since date changed. He knew nothing about that so I explained it to him and how he could help me. Sadly my grandmother passed away a couple years ago so she no longer has the card. I just turned 32 a couple days ago and this was when I was 18 so 14 years ago and a possible MSD of 2001. So I went online and chatted with AMEX. She was very nice and I told her about me recently getting my first AMEX and that I was an AU on my grandmothers account in 2001 (hope I didn't typo 2011 lol). I forgot her exact reply but it was something like "sending the request to a team which will take 2-3 days and you'll get your new card in 7 days".

She didn't even ask for my grandmothers name, DOB, member number or anything. Is the fact she didn't ask for that information and or that she is now dead mean that I may not get the change? Or am I good to go? If good will I only find out once I get the card or can a find out by logging in a few days?
Thanks!

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

Some CSR require verification. Others do not. If she/he put in the request, you are good to go. You will get a notification that a new card is being mailed out. Once that happens, you will log on and see the reflected MSD change.

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

I wish i could remember her exact words but I believe 'request' was one of them. If verification is needed what will I need to give them?

For those who have done this before is the 2-3 day request 7-10 card the standard for a go?

This is really going to boost my AAoA if it goes though as Ive had 6 new accounts opened since December plus another 2 that are just as new that I'm AU on. It's down to 0y9m. Maybe I should remove the newer AU accounts until they age but one is my DW Chases card in which she got $25 for adding me. Wonder if she loses that if I'm removed. Will have to do the math to see how much it will go up. May post that here soon.

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

Congrats!

I still haven't figured out if this board is partial to new threads for individual questions or joining an existing one, so forgive me if this is seen as highjacking.

I opened a AmEx Costco TE card a couple years ago before I had any idea about backdating etc. My MSD was backdated to 1987 (for an old Amex I had pre-BK, pre-divorce, in a former life). I'm sure it's helped with my credit since then. But I was absolutely clueless about it.

I was approved for a BCP earlier this week. So now I'll have ANOTHER card with a 1987 date. That should help with my AAoA too, right? Or at least it should offset the two other new cards this week. Smiley Wink

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

They will likely not ask for verification. If she put the request in, it's done. You're fine. Once the change is in, the next time your statement cuts, the change will be reflected on your reports.

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

Tort; Your new card will have your MSD on it. It will report to CRAs as the month you opened the card (March) and then the year from your MSD. Yes it will soften the blow of new accounts. This is why if my MSD gets backdated I'm opening a second for another boost.

Another AMEX question...
I got 10k bonus MR points for my ED card for $1k spend within 3 months. Could I go to cardmatch and use their link to get the 50k MR points for x spend within x time and get that bonus too? I should of in hindsight got that card/bonus first.

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

Word is getting around that AMEX no longer backdates to the CB but will still show the backdate on the card.

Re: AMEX MSD Change Question.

@ojefferyo
Is that already happening or in the works?

@all
Can any reason MSD AMEX changers noticed that the backdate is no longer reflected on your CRs?

I did the math earlier and it would of added 1 year to my AAoA.
