AMEX Platinum Airline Credit

I purchased a SWA one way ticket for 93.25 the other day with my Platinum card. I was surprised to see that I received a airline credit from AMEX for that purchase. I thought the credit couldn't be used for booking flights...

You're not supposed to but I believe as long as it's charged as the airline, you should be good.  I'm still waiting for my credit for my $100 PRG credit.

You’re correct that it is not supposed to be credited but some slip thru the cracks.  How long have you been waiting for your credit?  Usually only takes a couple days.

Re: AMEX Platinum Airline Credit

I read about this the other day and tested it with a $50 Southwest purchase. It was credited within 2 days. Just put in a $150 and waiting for that one. I've read that it's easier to get them from Southwest than it is for Delta or any of the others.

Gift cards are easy to get credited.  I have had no problem with SW, American and Delta in the past.  A direct purchase of an airline ticket is a different beast and they are rarely credited.

Re: AMEX Platinum Airline Credit

Gift cards and airfare are not technically covered. Purchases of those items when they fall under a certain amount are just assumed to be incidentals by Amex computers for some airlines. Statement credit is usually immediate once the charge actually settles on your account (1-3 days). If the charge is no longer a pending charge, it is doubtful that you will see a credit issued on a charge card if it’s not already showing. YMMV on calling them; personally I would just consider myself lucky if it was credited and chalk it up to a gamble that I lost if it wasn’t. Don’t mean to be the tough love poster, but it is what it is.
