AmEx removing rewards summaries from their statements

I was just reviewing my current statement (for a BCP) and on my rewards summary page, it states that starting in November they won’t be including them in the statements anymore. Does anyone have a guess as to why they’d do this? I get simplifying things, but I find the reward summary breakdown helpful. I really don’t understand why they are axing them.

My guess is that the reward summaries aren't very helpful being as though Amex has that built in lag with the rewards anyway.

It's all built into amex online. Could also be another push to get their customers to go paperless.

They include it in paperless statements, and should continue to do so.

AMEX's rewards policies have become a joke, including taking them off of someone's statements, which adds some of the ridiculousness to it. This is why I have one AMEX card left, and it isn't even used anymore.

I agree.  I read my statement every month in PDF format.  I also hate that they removed this info.  It's always a guessing game with Amex and their points system anyway and this just makes it even harder to guage.

Re: AmEx removing rewards summaries from their statements

I don’t mind the change, and it doesn’t really change a whole lot.

If you have more then one MR card. It was never accurate anyway. My past 2 statements for Platinum and ED were completely wrong. They showed about 120K less in MR points then I actually had. The date shown for MR balance on statements was always 1-2 months behind.

It’s all laid out pretty clearly online, although I can definitely see how that would be a nausiance to some.

Re: AmEx removing rewards summaries from their statements

The best tool for tracking AMEX rewards is buried.

  1. Hit the Statements and Activity link in your account's navigation bar.
  2. In the Recent Activity dropdown, choose any of your previous statements.
  3. Scroll to Rewards Dollars box at the bottom of the page.
  4. Hit the Bonus Details link that's in the bottom right-hand corner of that box.

If this information were in a readily accessible location, I'd bet that people would be a lot less likely to miss the information that's being removed from statements.
