My wife and I were blessed enough to get approved for 2 American Express cards last night.  She was approved foe the Gold Detla Skymiles Credit Card and I was aprroved for the Hilton HHonors card.  Here are my questions.  Both our limits started at 1k each.

#1  How long before I should start hiting the credit limit increase button online?

#2  Is there a backdoor number?

#3 When would be a good idea to try for other cards such as a charge or a cash back card?

#4 Is there a max number of cards they allow?

#5 Any other advice for Amex holders?

#6  What is the highest limit for Amex card?

Yes our limits are only 1k each but I will be charging 5k plus on each card each month and paying off balances in full as soon as they post.  How will Amex respond to this?

I am going to stop the usage on my other cards and just use Amex only.

Congrats on your new cards! I have both with SL of $2000 each. Unfortunately, there is no back door number to increase the clis. For new account holders, you will not be able to ask for an increase until after 60 days of account opening. Amex wants to see usage and account history first.

As for the cash back cards, they are harder to get. But, again, its YMMV. But, if your starting limits were $1000, that means you had a borderline approval. You might want to wait on those.

You may be able to request a charge card now. I applied for the Green charge card the same time I applied for the others, and was approved.

Sorry but what does YMMV mean?  I bet it is because of my inquires.  I have almost 100 on experian.  If I charge 5k on each card each month, how do you think they will respond with that?  I want to show heavy usage and stop using most of my current cards.

hmm!  We will see. I want to grow this card the highest ever.  I have always wanted Amex.  Now that I have it, I will take care of it and make sure they know they are #1

Use the card heavily and pay it off frequently and you should see some CLI's coming your way after sixty days. I wouldn't bother with a charge unless it's something that will really benefit you. After you've built a good reputation with Amex and your overall profile improves you can apply for more Amex cards, in most cases if you are denied you will only incur a SP if approved it will be a HP, which is ok since it garnered you an approval.
