Yup. When your purchase has been totalled and sent to the reader just tap the card when the screen says tap card or shows the contactless logo. Or has one green dot at the top representing a solid light. Or when it has one solid light if its a separate contactless reader like McDonald's.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
@CreditCuriousity wrote:Ya saw the old ring had the logo on some of the cards, but I never got one... Guessing they aren't avilable anymore.. Also guessing the freedom is no longer available.. That is interesting info on the Freedom.
With impeccable timing, my replacement Freedom just arrived last night.
New card adds EMV, but loses contactless.

Have you actually tested it to see if it works contactless? My dual interface BCE never works contactless. I used to have the old contactless card and that always worked, but I've just received my THIRD replacement dual interface card and none work via contactless, the transaction is always rejected.
I think I read something in a different thread about this... On EMV contactless cards, the contactless is actually EMV too so the card reader would have to support EMV before you can use the contactless there.

Close, but not exactly. EMV contactless can run in magstripe mode. HOWEVER:
1. If the terminal DOES have EMV enabled, it has to have the contactless EMV application and certification, seperate from contact EMV, or know to run that contactless application in magstripe mode.
2. If the terminal DOES NOT have EMV enabled, it has to know to ignore the EMV and run as magstripe (this was an issue with Equinox terminals on Amex cards, especially, and is likely Themanwhocan's problem given he said rejected - that's how Equinox terminals would react). This is fixed as these merchants (like Walgreens) enable EMV and add the Amex contactless application.

You know an awful lot about this kinda technology.. I have seen your posts in the past regarding some of this stuff as well.. Work in this field?
The only card I have that is Contactless is the debit Mastercard for my Key Bank business account. And it's been Contactless forever.

In my case, I can tell the contactless card (ok, its actually Dual Interface) is being read, because the card reader has this set of 5 white leds at the top, and each one lights up in sequence until they are all lit. So the card seems to be working, and the cashier has to click something to accept it. then a bit later they say "oh, the card was rejected"... Then I usually just swipe the mag stripe and complain to American Express again... I would think someone at American Express could check the logs and see why my contactless transactions are rejected, and not just waste time and money sending me a stack of replacement credit cards, but maybe thats just me, I spend my days answering tech support questions over the telephone and actually believing my customers when they tell me something isn't working.
The last 3 replacement cards you sent me don't work, and your solution is to send me another card? OK if you insist. By the way, now card #4 doesn't work either. Are you familiar with the definition of insanity?

White lights? Sounds like Equinox L5300 terminals to me. Does this look familiar? https://www.google.com/search?q=equinox+l5300&rlz=1CATAAB_enGB651GB651&espv=2&biw=1536&bih=810&sourc...
If so, recent (EMV-ready) firmware for these units CANNOT construct a magstripe transaction from Amex EMV cards (though works fine for other brands), though I've heard this is fixed in the most recent firmware. These units should work fine once EMV has been enabled, as long as the merchant gets it certified for Amex contactless.
P.S. to the person who asked - no, I don't work in the payment card industry, though I have some connections and I do do small business technology consulting, which inevitibly overlaps a bit.

Yes, it looks like the Equinox, though I really thought there were 5 leds, and those pictures show only 4.
I tried contactless at CVS as well, but I think they have some protocols disabled (when they disabled Apple Pay a while back)
