Barneys Question?

Both Pizza and Humuhumunukunukuapuaa have peaked my curiosity.  For those of you that have a Barneys card, what was your score when you got the card?  Also did you get it with SCT or regular applying?  Said I would not do another store card, but if my score is okay, then I will.  My EQ FICO 8 is 635, but EQ FICO 5 is 670.

Re: Barneys Question?

HI Kaykay,

I'll answer what I can to help. Barney's doesn't like recent inquiries, so I would advise waiting 8-10 months out from inquiries (and possible not applying for much longer if you have a lot of inquiries - thye won't like that either)

They pull EX not EQ. No SCT with them. My scores were about 680-685 on EX I believe at the time I applied.

Barney's is through Comenity Capital so they a reputation for being a little more particular than regular Comenity. Wait a bit if you think a number of inquiries or anything else in your file might make them hesitate. You'll get there, and you're doing great!

Re: Barneys Question?

Thanks for the encouragement and information.  My FICO  8 EX is 660, but My FICO 3 EX is 630.  Applying for Barneys might not be practical for me right now, but someone else could benefit from the information.

Age of those 18 INQs are a key data point: e.g. are half of them are more than a year old?

DCU EQ 5.0, Citi EQ 08 Bankcard, PenFed EX NG2
EX 08: AFCU, Amex, Chase, PSECU EX 98(?)
TU 08: Barclays, Discover

Re: Barneys Question?

KayKay....

When I apped, my EX score was 672 with 70 inquires, most of those being this year, and 20+new acts.

I can't tell you what they do and don't look for on applicants, but its all computer generated anyways, no live person looks at the app, unless its for verification.

Since this is Comenity Capital Bank, and not regular Comenity, they pull EXP for this card. I would say if this is a card you really want, and can use (everything is $$$$$), then app for it.

If you do app for it and get the 7-10 day message, don't panic! Comity Capital and Comenity are big on verification right now. The 7-10 is most likely verification, and you receive a letter with a number to call, and they will ask for the verification # listed directly on the letter. There is NO reconning!!

If you app and get instant approval look for the limit to be $500-$1k starting out. Again, don't panic! Once you apply and actually get approved for the card, Ill coach you from there.

Re: Barneys Question?

Ok. Thanks Pizza. If I apply I plan to do it beginning of September when UTI is under 10%. Made large purchase at Lowe's which I will pay down half of it by then. Taking advantageo of 0% financing.
