Thanks for the tip. Because my name as it appears on my mortgage differs slightly from my name as it appears on my checking & CC accounts, BOA's system requires separate logins. This is something that I can easily live with, because it doesn't stop me from using Bill Pay to make my payments. Anyway, I've been paying my mortgage via automatic monthly debits from a non-BOA deposit account.
Oh...disregard my earlier post then. If you ever get your name issue resolved though, this can be available to you.

First account with BOA.
I think you can count on a hard INQ when you open your first account with BofA.
When I opened my bank accounts I already had a CC. I asked if there would be a hard INQ to open the bank accounts and I was told, "NO". They did not lie. I opened the checking account to get the $75. (I am so cheap!)
I might do the same with Chase for $125 as long as that is also sans hard.

I don't think I have ever seen a BillPay service strictly for CC accounts. This would seem to fall under BT or cash advance normally.
This is why this thread has expressed such surprise. First surprise was that a CC could be used as a BillPay source, and secondly that it would be considered a purchase with grace period rather than a BT or cash and normal fees.
Nope, you don't need a BofA checking to use bill pay. I only have a CC and have used it without a problem. It's located on the same screen in which you would make a payment TO your BofA credit card.

Very interesting....thanks for the info

I wonder if there are different flavors of BillPay...
There might be. I have a Merrill Lynch Platinum Plus Visa, which is issued & serviced by FIA Card Services, a BOA subsidiary. That web site has its own "Bill Pay Choice" page, which works pretty much the same as BOA's Bill Pay but which has a different (& older) interface.
Some of the payees that I added to BOA's Bill Pay show up as FIA Bill Pay Choice payees. One of them is my BOA mortgage. On the FIA Bill Pay Choice page, I can use my ML Visa to pay this, but BOA's Bill Pay allows me to use only a checking account to make a mortgage payment. Odd.

I believe there are... apparently associated with a profile assigned by BofA's system:
(BTW I am a CC-only customer of BofA)
Several days ago (end of July) I activated my bill pay service after reading this thread. At that time I was given the option to add any listed biller to my bill pay service - however, I declined to do so as I was just scouting the service.
Today, having decided to put the service to the test, I logged in to add my electric utility bill only to discover that nowhere to be found was the option to add new billers - only e-bill listed was my BofA Visa CC.
So I contacted CS through online chat and was eventually given a phone number ("My Easy Payment service can be reached at 800-887-5749, option 2") which I called. The CSR asked if my card had once been managed by MBNA, which indeed it had. She confirmed that my "profile" had been changed by the system to a "BofA profile" under which there is no option of external bill payment. Apparently, this change happened between when I activated bill pay and today - coincidence?, I don't know... Asked if this Bill pay feature could be manually added and she apologetically said no.
Can't complain too much as they did CLI a few weeks ago at my request.

Huh. The plot thickens.
My cc was originally an MBNA card, too. Must have set up my billpay before they snuck the other options out.
This is getting interesting.
I called boa online pill-pay department, was told that I must have a checking or savings or a money market account with them to get that option activated...... And the only exception is for former MBNA credit card holders . .. Maybe because its still a new option !! Perhaps in a few months everyone will be able to sign up and use their credit card as a source of payment, hopefully soon enough while that service is still free !
