Capital One BT Offers

Finally got a BT offer from Cap1 today after nothing but "Transfer Your Balances and Pay at Your Current APR!" (23.99%... no thanks!).  Today's email was for 0% for 18 months with a 3% BT fee. The offer is good until October 3rd.

I'm currently carrying "legit" balances on four other cards:

Chase Freedom- $3150 @0% until Dec 3rd

Barclay CashForward- $6500 @0% until Feb 3rd

Citi Simplicity- $4900 @0% until July 2018

BlisPay- $800 purchase this week, so I've got 6 months at 0%.

I'm thinking I absolutely leave BlisPay and Simplicity alone. Will definitely pay off BP within 4 months. Paying more than minimum on Simplicity, but probably won't have it paid off by next July. But that's so far off that I don't see this situation being relevent to the current Cap1 offer for 18 months.

I probably won't have CF paid off by December, but maybe down to $2500. Barclay should be down to $6000, if not less by Feb.

Question- What are the odds that I'll get a better offer from Cap1 (or even the same offer if I let this one pass)?  I've seen other posts where people have claimed 1 or 2% BT fees. I've got offers from most of my other cards, but for shorter terms and same or higher BT fees. (I do have a 2% offer from Chase, but one is for my Freedom (which doesn't help), and the other is for my Amazon, but the limit is only $4000.

Has anyone else gotten a 3% offer initially and later gotten something better?  Or does Cap1 tend to repeat the same offers?

Re: Capital One BT Offers

The 1-2% BT fee offers do exist. DH used to get them all the time. However, no one can say with certainty you will get a lower BT fee on your next offer.

The only offer I've received is three percent, and I've gotten it three times in the last three months.  After never getting a BT offer from Capital One before, I'm happy to just get one, lol. At this point, my first BT offer was set to expire in July, but the current one is good until October. Thankfully I don't need it, but it's nice to see them warming up to me.

I would think after the holiday season, we might see some one and two percent fees. I know a couple of credit unions that only offer BT's during January.

Re: Capital One BT Offers

My first one was 3% and zero for 18 months. Last two have been 2% and zero for 18. I'm doing one now.

To answer your question. It's different for everyone. I always have an 18 month available. If it goes away it's only for a week or two then comes right back.

Re: Capital One BT Offers

My QS, which is my oldest Cap One Card (2 years), has only gotten one BT offer, 3 % was the rate. My Venture which is a year old, offered me 2% for 18 months back in Feb. I took advantage of it. I received another 2% offer shortly after, then a 3%. Just last week got another 2% offer, I find it interesting that I've never been offered another BT on my QS, but get them constantly on the Venture.. It's hard to be able to tell what cap one will do. So are you going to take the offer?

Re: Capital One BT Offers

I've been with CapOne for a little over 4 years and I've yet to get a balance transfer offer.  The only option I ever get is to transfer at my current rate of 17.9 percent (no thanks).  I don't necessarily need one but it'd be nice if they'd at least throw an offer out there from time to time.  So, as of now, we're at 4 years and counting with absolutely no BT transfer offer, ever!  They've been generous with the CL as it's currently at $44.5k but no love to be had in the way of a balance transfer.

You can hold out but there is no guarantee that one will ever come around again...best of luck in your decision.

Try hitting the balance transfer button everyday for a week to 10 days, before you know it you will have a 12-18 month balance transfer offer show up.

It's not too much time or effort for people to test that theory, unfortunately I know it doesn't work for me as I tried daily for a while and still just the "Pay only your purchase APR of 25.99%."  In nearly 2 decades with CapOne, not a single BT offer for me.

Re: Capital One BT Offers

Interesting. I saw that tip on these forums a couple weeks ago, so gave it a try. Got the email offer yesterday. In my account, I'm showing the 18 mo/0%/3% fee and the no fee, 23.99% offer.

When I hit the BT offer button, I went through the process a few steps just before actually entering the other card info. Just cancelled out. Thought that maybe they can see that I almost pulled the trigger, but changed my mind. Maybe the new offer is triggered that way?

Re: Capital One BT Offers

I think I'm going to hold out for a better BT fee. I really don't need it till December, so I can keep paying down my balances. I would like to transfer everything to get it all on one card, but my Cap1 only has a $10k limit.

I like the 18 months, but I am getting tons of 0% offers from Chase, Citi, and Discover in case I don't get a better Cap1 offer.

However, I also like the ability to spend on the card and avoid interest by paying at least the minimum plus pay the new charges in full. The only reason I've been getting the last 9 months for CLI denials is "not enough usage".
