Awesome!  We have a card from 07 that has the $39 fee, its a former HSBC card and its never been eligible to convert.  Glad your APR is several points below 20 too! Mine is TEN points higher.

Your thread encouraged me to try to PC my Platinum to a QS no AF again. I've tried probably three times in the last couple months (I've had the card for about 4 months). One time they told me they would do it, then transferred me and the new rep said that I didn't have an offer. Confusing. But anyway........

APPROVED. Yay! Now I have two QS Mastercards. My plan is to keep trying for CLIs and then wait about a year or year and a half from opening and then combine. We'll see how it goes.

I posted this in Approvals, but I wanted to also say this here. Because OMG!!! This just happened to my Plat-> Quicksilver. IMG_7810.JPG

I know! I'm totally blown away. I had finally accepted the fact that I would probably only get the credit steps increase. Maybe that is the key to getting what you want. lol. Acceptance. Just like UncleB and Ellis Redding. Smiley Wink I'm being very philosophical right now because I'm just so freaking excited!!!!!!! I want to jump up and down and squeal but I can't because I'm at work. Smiley Tongue

you would think 9 year is a long time, both of my cap1 cards take 13 years and multiple $48 AF evolve to QS.
I can not combine them now as i would lose 26 years history 10 year from now.

Yeah, that's the part folks frequently forget when they say "it won't hurt your AAoA because it will report for 10 years".

They mean well, but there's a couple of problems with that.  As you mention, 10 years can go by rather quickly... I've actually taken a score 'hit' the last couple of years due to old accounts aging off.  It's generally not a problem for people who have lots of accounts (or churn for rewards) but for folks who have a smaller number of cards (and don't churn) it will eventually catch up.  Granted, the 'hit' isn't huge, but it's still there.  The second problem is that there's no guarantee the closed account will report for 10 years... it's "up to" 10 years, and that makes a difference as well.  I have personally had significant accounts drop off before the 10 year period was up, so I'm perhaps more sensitive to this than others.

In my own case, the QS1 is my third oldest account... only my Belk and Lowe's are older (10 and 12 years).  For that reason (primarily) I really wanted to keep it open if at all possible (without paying a fee).  Now that it's fee-free, I can see myself keeping this account for the 'long haul'.  Smiley Wink

You guys both have such a valid point RE: AAoA.  The time I really toss out that suggestion, personally, is if a person is either new to credit or rebuilding their credit and their oldest positive account is something like a one or two year old secured card.  That loss of history is nothing in the grand scheme of things so there's no point in holding onto a secured card that won't graduate forever - may as well get your money back.  In you guys' case, it's a completely different story because we're talking about a card that's a decade or more old.

UncleB ---- CONGRATS on finally getting this thing PC'd.  That's awesome.  Well, well deserved.

Thanks!  Smiley Very Happy

I honestly woudn't have even checked on a PC again if I hadn't been really bored... I had truly given up and was planning on combining it with my QS Visa in a few months.  That being said, if they eventually came around for me, they might for you, too!  Smiley Wink

The APR on this card is 'interesting'... it's a full 3% lower than my QS Visa Signature, but I'm probably just going to leave each card as it is.  The QS Visa gets balance transfer offers all the time (0% for 12 months, 3% fee) while the offer on the MasterCard is with no fee, but no promo APR, either... just the usual 15.15% from day one.  Smiley Frustrated

I'm not complaining, though... I'm just pleased to be able to keep the history without that darned fee!  Smiley Very Happy

Maybe Capital One is 'loosening up' with the PCs now!  Smiley Very Happy
