Re: Will walmart block me too?

I have 2 cap 1 cards one had 14 late payments from 2011-2012. In 2017 I applied for the Kohl’s card which is backed by Cap 1 and they approved me with a starting SL of $300. Though I only received one pull from EQ for the Kohl’s card, I have read on here that they might be pulling 3 CBS if you click on a certain link to apply? I am sure others will chime in. Good luck if you decide to go for it.

Re: Will walmart block me too?

If you bounced payments to Capital One, it's very unlikely. Capital One will put up with a lot but they draw the line there.

If the card is worth it to you, you can try to apply and see what happens. UW is different between cobrand and core cards but it will likely cost you a HP on each bureau to find out.

Uncle B,

I am curious as to what would be better options for shopping inside the store?   The best I have been able to figure out is my 2% back on my Citi DC.

If I can jump in, it depends on how your local Walmart codes for Visa/MC. In store Walmart always codes as "discount store" for AmEx & Discover, but often codes as grocery on Visa/MC, my store does. I don't have Citi DC but I have a couple cards that give me 2% on all purchases and a couple more that give me 2% on groceries. But since March I've been using my BBVA Clear Points that lets you chose one 3% category quarterly and groceries is one of the choices, plus they run periodic promos like the current one that gives you 4% on top of the 3% for all of September up to $750 spend, so that card has been my go to card for Walamrt this month for 7% rewards. Starting Oct. 11 it's back to my Walmart store card for 5% w/Walmart Pay, until BBVA runs another 4% promo.

+1

@DaveInAZ beat me to it... I have the ClearPoints Visa which offers grocery as a 3% category, and my local Walmart SuperCenter codes as grocery for Visa.

I know my BCE and Disco  do not code as grocery, but I haven't really paid attention to how my DC codes it and I can't remember when the last time I used another card at WM was to even check it.

Your scores are certainly good enough for a store card. But others have expressed reservation because of your Cap1 history. I don't want to urge you to try for it anyway... the risk of three hard pulls is definitely there. If you've been blackballed by Cap1 then maybe you need to cool your heels.

I can't get anything from Cap1 in prequals. I haven't burned them or anything. I used to have a card with them that was closed due to lack of use. They won't even prequal me for a secured card or the Platinum, and my scores are in the 650-660 range. Yet my store card is being transitioned over to them (I was one of the first to get a letter about it).

I'm NOT trying to encourage you to try. I'm just saying, Cap1 is a mysterious beast.

Question about the New Capitol One Walmart Mastercard Rewards Program

I was considering applying for this card.  However, when I was reviewing all of the material available, it appears to me that you receive the 5% cashback reward on purchases only if you pay for them by using Walmart Pay or if you make purchases online.  Am I understanding correctly?

Re: Question about the New Capitol One Walmart Mastercard Rewards Program

Correct. You get 2% in-store, but you'll get 5% in-store for the first 12 months.

I saw the offer when I was in line at Walmart. For the first 12 months, 5% cash back in stores using it with Walmart Pay. After the first year, it looks like its 2% after that (with or without Walmart Pay). Looks like 5% online all the time.

Re: Question about the New Capitol One Walmart Mastercard Rewards Program

Thank you.  I understood that the 5% was just for the first 12 months.  Just wasn't sure about the requirement to pay for the purchased with Walmart Pay in order to get the 5% reward.  I do not have Walmart Pay.  Will any of you advise what the pros and cons of using Walmart Pay are, please (that is aside from being able to get the 5% cashback for the first 12 months of having the card).
