So i have a Discover card that has been restricted/suspended for almost 2 years. It's been at a $0 balance and it's my oldest card so I've kept it instead of canceling.
I called the other day to see if they would lift the restrictions and they said their system runs a report once a month to see if I'm eligible. The reports show 2 charge offs (I will be able to pay by the end of the month) and a delinquent credit card that first went delinquent two years ago this June, with a $0 balance. This card is with Chase.
I guess my questions is, how long after an account went delinquent (and then brought current) do credit cards "forgive" you. I know it'll be on there for 7 years but the severity lessens over time?
So, you weren't delinquent with discover or bounce a payment?
In 2018, I was delinquent with Discover for 5 months (July, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov), paid off my entire balance in December and then they restricted it.
But when I called to ask why it was still restricted a year later, the rep said it was because of my other delinquencies with Chase, not with Discover. That's why I was a little confused..
That's not unusual. If your account went delinquent for so long, I'm actually surprised it wasnt charged off.
If you have an open, unsatisfied charge off with another lender, in their eyes that means you're still experiencing financial distress, and history may repeat itself
Once you pay your charge off updating should be completed in two reporting cycles, and maybe they will reconsider unrestricting the card at that or later time.
I was surprised it wasn't charged off too! But very grateful it didn't.
I guess I'll satisfy those charge offs and see what happens. It's not hurting anything by sitting there, if anything it's helping with my CL, AAoA and payment history. I had racked up a large amount of cashback rewards that I hope to see again one day, which is why I was curious about it.
Anyway, thanks for your input!
That's amazing, because I bounced a payment with discover 2 years ago, they closed my account after I paid the balance to zero and I still can't get a card with them. Not even secured, they send me the reason and it says existing account. How do I get around it? Because it closed with a zero balance and on my credit it says closed at creditor discretion.
