Hi everyone,
I had a question about the Discover it Student version. Does it act similarly to the normal It, like CLIs and such?
the reason I ask is because I did try and get a normal Discover It, but was denied. I then noticed it had a student version (which I am) so I thought why not give it a shot since it said no credit needed. I was approved for $500 sl.
Will this card continue to grow, and is this a good way to get in with Discover? I really like their cards, the 5% categories work great for my spending. I hope this will prove to Discover my responsibility and that the card will grow, and maybe even be able to get the normal version in the future. (If it even makes a difference)
my scores are currently around 650s.
Hopefully this is the right place to post this.
thanks in advance! -Chaz
As far as I know they are basically the same. I opened the Discover More student card back in college and it's grown nicely over the years, and transitioned into the regular Discover More after college.
that is great to hear. I've never been with Discover before and am not too familiar with them, but am excited to get in the door and begin a relationship with them
thanks for info!
Discover is pretty good about CLI's. You can request one manually almost any time (should wait 6 months or so though), and they'll automatically CLI sometimes as well. It's always a soft pull with Discover too, so a lot of people hit that "Request CLI" button like it's a video game.
The 5% revolving categories are great too, and they'll double all your rewards in your first year. I've had Discover for about 10 years and I've been pretty happy with them.

It should grow just like any other Discover card. I've had the Discover it Student card for almost three years and have gotten several CLIs on it, and one of them was automatic! Mine has gone from $1750 to $6850. It also has all of the same rewards as the regular one, so there is no need to apply for the regular one separately.
Wow, almost 7k! That's awesome. Thank you both for the great info. I'm really glad to be in with them even with a student card I will use this as my daily driver and hope to see some big Cli in the future!!
will be annoying for now as my monthly spend is about 1-1.5k but hopefully discover will see the need for more credit soon after proving myself.
They should be similar. I was approved for the student version 2 years ago with a $1500 CL when I had no credit history. I had decent usage on that card in the following year since my only other option was QS1, and I got 2 automatic CLI, $1500 -> $4000 -> $5500 in the first year. So I think if you use the card regularly and your credit score increases over time, you will be able to get decent CLI.

My DD's Student card has gone from a $1500 to $4500 in the first year, so our experience has been the same.

I wish I coulld say the same. I got the Student Disco 2 years ago and I can't get past $1600. I've gotten more CLI by far from NFCU and AMEX Blue. They just insta denied an increase today. But I have no inquiries on TransUnion for this year and there's only $70 balance on the card. It seems to be a mixed bag getting CLI from them if you carry any balance. I just sock drawered them since usage seems to turn their underwriters off.

It's pretty funny that just 2 days ago they bumped the CL again from $5500 to $7500. I am pretty sure it's because I've put decent usage on this card to shop at target this quarter, and I'm planning to max out the 5%. So at least in my case, as long as I'm using the card regularly, they are giving me CLI regularly.
