Discover it PC

So, today I decided to change my Discover Card from the Discover it Chrome to the Discover it card. Do you guys find yourselves earning more or less money with this change? I really only use mine for food and occasional Amazon purchases, so hopefully I can find myself getting more in rewards!

You should come out ahead depending on how much you used the chrom on the 2% cats and how much you use it on the 5% cats.. I would suspect if you didnt use it alot being the chrome the IT will come out ahead at 5% earning on cats assuming you use some of those cats

I know when I had the Freedom unlimited I didn't do near as well as the regular freedom and a similiar concept.  Just my spending habits personally though

Re: Discover it PC

I made the switch the other way about halfway through my first year with the card. After the groceries bonus category lapsed, I wasnt finding anything useful with the it card, and getting the BCE picked up the slack, so I switched to chrome. I was still using it for general spend with the first-year double bonus, and the restaurant kickback was nice since it covered coffee shops and bars most of the time (ah, grad school). I even discovered the coffee stand in my department building took DC despite their 'VISA/MC ONLY' sign to happy accident.

It really comes down to spend habits and how it falls in with other cards in your wallet. if you buy gas at standalone stations and shop at big box stores/amazon with some frequency, the it card is great and sort of evens out over the year. I don't dine out that much, but chrome still worked out better. For everything else, 1% is 1% (after the double bonus period, at least) so I only use it for coffee/food/drinks these days.  The beauty is that they let you switch rewards programs at will however often you like. Either way, their both great no-AF, no-strings-attached cashback cards to hang on to, which is my guess why its so coveted here.

Definitely use the spend analyzer and see what you buy and where. I definitely agonized over it, but the numbers told me it was a no-brainer.
