Are you sure all the places you went to were coded as dining? The problem is sometimes eateries within larger places will not code as dining, which I think Discover has a disclaimer about, like all cards with categories do.

 

It's a shame that Discover doesn't break down the rewards by category/purchase. It's definitely something they should consider adding because it is a major headache to sift through your statement and calculate rewards. Quite honestly I don't have time for that, and really, who does? It's crazy.


They were all definitely coded as dining, at least by what I can tell on the statement.

I honestly don't think it's that crazy. I only track during the 5% because that's when Discover seems to mess up the most. And they are usually happy to give it back to you.

Well I think it's pretty nuts.  Just got my Discover It and was very surprised to learn this.  Barclays, BoA, Chase, Capital One, all make it very easy for you to see the amount of cashback you are getting for each transaction.  I'm surprised with so much Discover seems to get right in terms of customer service that they don't have this.  And the idea that some people have gotten wrong amounts of cashback from them is hardly comforting.  The idea that each month I will need to go through my entire statement and add everything up to make sure they haven't cost me cashback is more than a little annoying and something that at least with the companies I've had is singular to them. 

 

It probably really won't effect my amount of spend (because double cashback is double cashback), but not gonna lie when things "clear out" from that bonus I may use it less if I have 5% caschback from Sallie or Freedom in the same category.

I went over my statements today and noticed I did not in fact get 5% for a fandango movie purchase and two restaurants that were coded as travel/entertainment in Las Vegas, so I contacted Discover via chat. The CSR confirmed that they were not credited, but said she would be more than happy to manually credit my account, said I should see them on my next statement. I will follow up next month.

The response to my message was that the cash back may not be accurate if the charge was made within five days of the statement closing. But there was no effort on their part to tell me if I am, in fact, missing cash back or not.
