Hi! For those that may not know, HelloFresh and other Meal Prep services are no longer being coded as "supermarket" (for card that gives cashback on grocery such as the AMEX Blue Cash Preffered.)
My question is: Does anybody know what these services are being coded as now? Is it "Restaurant"? Is it "online shopping"?
This will help me choose my next card based on how I eat lol!
Thank you!
I don't have an updated copy of the Amex merchant classification code list (they're not really made public) since that change happened to scan through. With the recent explosion of the number of similar businesses in the industry, my assumption would be that Amex may have created an additional MCC for "meal-kit delivery services." Alternately, they may have been assigned to the existing MCC for food catalog sales (i.e. Omaha Steaks, Shari's Berries, etc.).

For Blue Apron I was getting 3% cashback under Online Shopping on Bank of America card a few months back. Can't say for sure now as I am rotating companies (currently sunbasket) to get very nice amex kickbacks on me and wife's amex accounts.
Such as $25 back spending over $50 and useable 1-3 times. Takes more effort and of course changing food providers but it cuts costs a lot.
Stinks it's not grocery though for 6% AX BCP.
I dont know about hello fresh but heres a quirky coding, Big Lots codes as grocery on my cap 1 savor one. big lots has a very small grocery section, 90 pct of the store is furniture and other goods. I was there today and i bought a pair of sunglasses as groceries and earned 3 pct cb.
TryItAgain is right - I'm getting HelloFresh on my BofA Custom Cash Rewards card at 3% as online shopping (which is 5.25% with diamond tier).
Wow! Okay, looks like BOA 3% online might be the move! Thank you!
You can use the awardwallet app lookup feature will show what cards have passed
That app is incredibly useful!!! The only downside is that it appears that you already have to have the account before it will tell you the Merchant Code. But, still, INCREDIBLY useful for those who have the cards ! Thank you!
