This statement is not true. While it may be a general "rule" on these boards, plenty of forum members have reported being approved for Chase products when they were over 5/24 and even some that were over 10/24. As with almost everything credit-related, it comes down to individual profiles and cases.

This is true. I got approved after recon for a Slate with 27/24. My SL was only 2k but I did get the card. And that is after being denied the Disney and Freedom cards.

The rule is, if over 5/24, one can expect to be denied EXCEPT in some cases where someone got a 5/24-limited card because of some combination of features in their profile or relationships with Chase.
Im in the same boat as you soloman, I am over 5/24, scores arent the greatest, and just received my first pre-quals with chase. As soon as I get lower utilization reported in a few days im going to try the Freedom pre-qual. I say go for the Freedom ASAP and let us know how it turns out!

Hello cy1215. Guess what? Despite being approved by more than 5 in the last 2 years, despite having 50% utilization, and despite having a collection, I was approved! It wasn't instant and stated further review was needed. I called and they asked for my cell number to send a verification a code. I read the code to her and she stated I was approved. The unusual part is she didn't tell me my limit nor rate. She said it will be in the welcome package. I applied for the Slate to transfer a balance from another card. I'll whisper a prayer that yours goes smoothly too!
UPDATE: I called the status line listed in the myFICO Backdoor Numbers. The limit is $5K and I was given the 0% introductory rate.
AWESOME!!!!! Man that is so awesome. Gives me hope too! I have a collection and a couple charge-offs, but im gonna hold out for about a week more so I can have under 10% uti reporting hoping that will give me a decent limit.. Congrats!
Congrats Soloman! I would go for the CSP-- I have the CSP and I absolutely love it!!

hum easy does it and back away from the return key...this looks like an offer from a chase portal, is it? if yes forget it. go to their site for a pre-qual
The offer came from here: https://www.chase.com/prequalified
I keep checking there but I'm guessing I get nothing because I'm under 21?

I think it depends if you were pre-qualed as a Chase customer or pre-qualed as a non customer.
