Re: Target Redcard One more Thing

I am an expat so I am always on the lookout for PIN priority credit cards. I was recently approved for one from SDFCU, which is my first PIN priority card.

I know nothing about the Target Redcard other than what I've been picking up from reading threads like this. I have a couple questions.

1. If I apply for the Redcard, will I get the store version by default, which is mabye later upgraded to the MC version? Or does Target now offer only the MC version?

2. Is it true Chip-and-PIN with PIN priority? That is the feature I would want. I am not interested at all if it is not PIN priority.

3. Is a microscopic SL a "feature" of this card? I don't need a high credit limit, but if it is $300 it won't be very useful to me.

1. Store card only. They may target you later for a MC

2. It's true chip and pin. I literally just came from target and was unable to use my card because the keypad was broken.

3. It's usually a smaller starting limit.

1. OK, a store card makes it useless for me. I've never seen any Target stores here in Africa! Smiley Frustrated (I wish...) I suppose there's no way to get guaranteed for an MC upgrade down the road? I mean, I could apply for a store card now and hope for the best. The problem is that I would never use it except when I'm visiting the US, which isn't too often, especially now.

2. That's a winner.

3. Another negative DP.

Thank you for the infomation!

You are correct. It is a psychological thing.

I do not need a Target Mastercard. I already have other high limit cards, such as Citi DC with a $24000 limit.

It's just that I prefer not to have store cards, and prefer only bank cards, even if co-branded. If I can get the upgrade, why shouldn't I have it?

Sure, if you can get the upgrade and you want it, fine, but we cannot help with that first bit!   But your original message was more asking if other people felt the same and would SD etc.   And I think you got a range of opinion on that.  Whether you found that helpful or not....

Target Upgrade Letters

Just wondering if anyone is receiving upgrade letter to Mastercard lately?

Re: Target Upgrade Letters

I was upgraded in March, which I found odd. The upgrade letters typically went out around August. So very soon, if COVID doesn't interrupt that schedule.

Re: Target Upgrade Letters

I'd love an upgrade. I love the 5% because I shop at Target all the time, but I am tired of having it tied to my checking account because it takes days for stuff to show up.

The upgrade to a Mastercard only applies to the credit card version, not the debit version, of the Target Red Card.
