Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

Sorry if this is slightly off topic but it seems like nobody is getting auto CLI from cap1. I applied 8/12 with less then perfect credit and a 5 year old BK. They started me at 1000 and I received an auto CLI to 1500 after 6 months...is this unusual? I'm going to request a CLI next month (unless they auto me again!)

No, that means you were part of their Credit Steps program. That is their typical protocol to do a one-time CLI after you make 5 on-time payments for all Credit Steps accounts. Generally, after the Credit Steps increase you won't  receive another auto CLI. Also, many of these accounts are the accounts that will state "This type of account does not allow customer initiated credit limit increases." if you push the LUV button. Then, you need to go the EO route.

Has anyone had any luck/experience of getting a CLI within 6 months of an auto CLI? I am at 5months.

Yes the Luv Button is working, I read it was once every six month and it's a SP. Most people have been getting a 500$ increase, I however got a 2K CLI from the Luv button.

I think it may have to do with the person's CL to begin with, those with small/toy limits seem to only get 500$ increments, while I had a limit of 4K  (No Hassles Card) that hadn't moved in ~5 years.

Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

What exactly is the cap1 credit step program? Is that just a generic term used when someone with so so credit applies? Or is it a specific program because I never heard of it before this thread. I'm relatively new to the CC boards as I've been mostly focused on mortgages until recently.
Thnx

Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

I can vouch for the facebook method.  They are taking that very serious.

Go their facebook page and make a firm and frank, but do be polite, statement about why you are upset about your limit and that you would like to talk to someone about it, then submit it.

Someone from their facebook team will chat you up and tell them you are not happy with the limit you have and you have been a perfect no risk customer for however long and that you want an account executive to contact you so that you may do a CLI through the underwriters.  Be as polite and honest yet firm as you can through the whole procedure and you will get a call from you special account executive that will take down your profession, income, investment/home values, and requested limit and submit it to the underwriters for you!  BINGO

Of course if your credit is crap this wont get you much further than the website initiated CLI request, but if you truly feel that you have been jipped out of a much higher CLI and you have the financials to back your opinion this may the perfect way to go for you.  I just completed mine today.

Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

First off, I'm sorry for bumping such an old thread, but this is the one that helped me recently when I found it.I noticed how every thread that discusses the EO leads to requests for a PM of the info to reach the EO, so perhaps this bump might help with some of that.

Second, I don't know if the poster a couple posts up ever got an answer for the credit steps program, so I thought I'd post the credit steps letter that I received initially. I got this card a year ago with a limit of $500, and got my increase in April, I believe. Then this month, a year after I got the card, I used the website and got an increase of $100. I'm still waiting to see if the EO I spoke with will increase me any more, but for now I at least got my annual fee credited back (that reflexted on my account yesterday) and I was upgraded to the Quicksilver One account.

Here is the letter for the Steps Program:

Dear XXXXX,
Welcome to Capital One!® Your Welcome Kit informed you of your initial credit limit, but as a Capital One Preferred
cardholder, you have been pre-qualified for a $750 credit line with Capital One Credit StepsSM. This is an automatic
service for new customers and an easy way to achieve more buying power. Simply follow these two steps:
1. Use your card at least once.
2. Make your first 5 monthly payments on time.
That's it. Just complete these two steps and you could automatically get access to your pre-qualified credit line of $750 by
your 7th statement. That's how easy it is to get the extra power you need to fill up your gas tank, buy groceries, dine out...
or just treat yourself!
Credit Steps is another No Hassle way to take control of your financial future. If you have any questions about your

Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

I found this forum extremely useful so I just wanted to share my experience with the Capital One EO with the hopes that it may help someone else.

First I googled "Capital One CEO Email Address".  It's extremely easy to find and probably takes less time than asking someone here to PM you with it.  Here is the email I sent (with obvious info redacted):

Hi Mr. "Capital One CEO"-

Thank you for taking the time to read my email.  My name is Joe Smith.  I currently have two Capital One Credit Cards.  I had a BK discharged in July of 2013, and Capital One has been a tremendous help in reestablishing my credit.  As such I will always have a Capital One card "in my wallet".  I have a Secured MC with a $200 limit that was opened in April of 2013, and I have an Unsecured MC with a $300 limit that was opened in September of 2013.  I have made all of my payments on time as well as paid the entire balance of each card the majority of the time.  I have two concerns that I have been unable to have addressed through normal correspondence with Capital One Customer Support.

First, I would like to determine if there is a way to manipulate your system to decide in advance if I might be approved for the Quicksilver MC.  It is my understanding that I can only have two Capital One cards in total when having the Quicksilver MC.  As I already have two cards with you it isn't possible for me to apply for the Quicksilver MC without closing one of my current cards (the Secured MC is the obvious choice).  While I am in the credit rebuilding mode I don't want to close an account without some reassurance that I am able to qualify for another, more useful card.  I would love the opportunity to transition to the Quicksilver MC allowing me to gain limit increases without additional security deposits which I am unable to do with the Secured MC.

Second, part of my need in a credit card is that I am required to use a personal credit card when I am traveling for work and the expenses are reimbursed by my company.  I have not had success with credit line increases as it is not an option for the Secured MC without additional security deposit and the Unsecured MC has not been open for six months.  Are you able to supplement the usage and payment history of the Unsecured MC with the usage and payment history of the Secured MC?  My hope is that the history between the two may be able to provide you with enough information that I can receive an increase on the Unsecured MC allowing me to use for business travel as that is the driving force behind this request.

Again, I very much appreciate your time in addressing this email and offer many thanks in advance for anything that you can do to assist me.

Best regards,

-Joe Smith

I sent the email on Sunday night and received a call Monday afternoon from an extremely helpful individual from the office of the CEO.  He had read my letter and immediately offered me to upgrade my Unsecured MC to the Quicksilver One MC.  He then asked to verify some information regarding income, etc. as well as asking what my requested limit increase would be.  I asked for $3K, and he asked if I was offered less would I accept.  I said yes.  He then told me it would take 3-5 days for underwriting to review the information and he would call me back personally with the decision.  He then gave me a case number as well as his office line.  Tuesday morning I checked (prior to 9:00AM PST) and no activity yet, but I didn't really expect it quite so soon.  Then I checked after 9:00 and there was an increase from $300 to $1500!  The entire process took less than two days from the time I sent the email.  What a great experience!  Six months out of BK and a five X limit increase on a card less than four months old.  My CK score yesterday was 596 (611 today, but that had nothing to do with this limit increase as it isn't reporting yet).

The only negative is that there is no option to graduate the secured card.

I would not have had a clue about the EO option if it weren't for these forums, so my deepest thanks to everyone on here and best of luck!

One final thing; I am not sure if it mattered, but Capital One allows you to pay 10% over the balance due which I did most times and several times this made my payment more than the limit.

Re: How to get a PC or CLI from Capital One

I just applied for a cli on my Quicksilver card (which was a pu) through the automated system & was told Id" receive my answer in the mail". Which to me means I got denied. The customer service rep said it could mean they need more information. I've never heard of it ending up that way?
My TU is 750, my EQ 737, EX 688. Not stellar but good enough for: Chase Freedom $11000, Barclay Ring & my CU Visa ea $5000 Discover $4400, Amex BCP $4000. Cap 1: Rewards $1250, $900(was HSBC) Quicksilver $800! What's wrong with this picture! I'm waiting for the letter to see what kind of reason it gives but I read everything in this post & I didn't see such big discrepencies. Oh, my utilization is 4-7%, no lates, & one 3 yr old (paid ) derogatory ,from Midland, on EX. No matter what I do I can't get EX up to 700. Even when TU was 777.(I took out a $3000 personal loan almost 3 mos ago. It's paid to 80% but my scores took a dive). Is everything ok & I just have to wait for the letter & start the process, as outlined, with FB? It was such a surprise, I feel as if I should be worried. I would really appreciate feedback. Last time I asked Cap 1 for cli's, they gave me $400 on ea card & I didn't have all these other things going for me. I plan to give my increase reason as Cap 1 is my longest card & I hate to not be able to use it very much because I want to keep my usage at 7%. Any & all feedback appreciated. Thanks
