For various reasons I wanted an increase in my Chase (United) CL. It is my daughter's and wife's emergency card, and I wanted a bigger buffer available.
So I called and she told me they would pull my CR (fine with me) and asked me my HHI (fine with me).
I asked for $6,500, to bring it to a nice round number. I did not get it - I got $4,700. Seemed an odd amount, but I took it. I then thought about it, and realized that this means my new Chase CL is exactly $200 more than the highest CL I have solely in my name.
Interesting
I doubt that there is a correlation between your highest limit and chase's increase. FWIW, my limit on chase card is about 43k lower than my highest with refusal to increase it.

This is true. My wife applied for a Chase Freedom and she was only approved for $1500. I asked the CSR why the CL was so low, and she replied that their decision was based upon the CL of her other accounts. All her other cards are around $1000 so that makes sense.
Interesting, I applied last Friday evening and got the 7-30 day message. I am in hopes they will match my Amex Costco line of $10,000. But most likely they "might" match Discover which is $1500....
I would sock drawer Discover as I think the Freedom Card is better...

My credit lines range from $2000 to $10000 and Chase gave me $2000 on my Freedom.
my credit limits when i got my freedom were 300 on household and 100 on macys
chase gave me 2,000
i don't see the point that the give you around current credit limits
Mine staggered up to $4K from the $2500 where it had been for 3+ years since I opened it. My highest non-CU CL is $18.9K (BofA), so I guess Chase doesn't worry about matching.
Mine was an auto-CLI, which caused me nearly to faint with amazement.
They're mighty tight with their money, that's for sure. (Maybe they need to keep some cash around to defend all those lawsuits regarding their untidy foreclosures, ahem.)
+1 - LOL!

My other credit cards range from $3500 to $15k. Chase gave me $7k. I am happy with that limit.
My wife's had the Amazon Chase for almost two years. It's still at $4k even though she has much longer and thus slightly better credit history and even though she uses it a lot and pays in full each month.
My Chase United Mileage Plus card is also at $4700, been stuck there for over a year now. It's at $0 balance, I'm hoping they consider lowering my APR in a few months when my account is up for an automatic review (as mentioned by the last Chase rep I spoke to).
