Is Citi trying to be funny?

Back on June 26 I left the Garden after 2 months to apply for the Citi Double Cash. I went to their website and I had a pre-qual with specific APR. So, I applied and was promptly turned down. Two recons later I was told there was no way I would get the card at all because of too many INQs and new cards and it's totally against their rules to make any exceptions. I accepted it and decided I never needed a Citi card. I started this thread about the whole experience: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Citi-Double-Cash-Decline/td-p/4095676

So, I'm over Citi and decided I am moving on and that's it. I came home from work tonight and there was a letter from Citi - it's a Pre-Selected offer for a Citi Diamond Preferred Card!! WTH??? I guess they're trying to throw salt on the wound or something. They took 2 HP from EX and EQ, turned me down, sent me a rejection letter with really bogus reasons, and then I get this the next week.

Should I call and ask what's up and why they would even consider sending this (which I have absolutely no interest in - plus it's a Citi bank card). I'm definitely in the mood to go a few rounds with them!!!

The Diamond Preferred card mailer is pure marketing and nothing but a joke. I get it about once a month. Don't fuss about it. Throw it in the shredder ... unless you really want to go through that ordeal again.

The mailer department of that card doesn't really check with the credit department, it seems Smiley Happy

Still don't believe them!  Smiley Mad  Sorry to hear.  I would call one more time.  I got the Citi DC and you know I have a lot on inq's & new cc's over the past 3 months.  I did ask for a cli on the DC last night but don't think I will get it.  Maybe their site went the way of BofA and Discover?

The Diamond Preferred is a what I like to call an "Introduction to Citi" product. I've known several to get a decline from them and within months (providing their credit meets certain criteria) receiving this offer. It is solid and is a great prybar for all things Citi.

Re: Is Citi trying to be funny?

Unfortunately it's marketing! The credit reporting agency sells your information to credit card companies that you fit the criteria and Citi sends mass offers to those listed. It's all done by computer.

Discover IT $17k / US Bank Ace (VSig) $13.5K / US Bank Cash+ (VSig) $13.5k
Sam's Mastercard $15k / Walmart Mastercard $10k / Blispay $7.5k PayPal Ex MC $10.8k
CareCredit 5k / Husq $5k / Cap1 QS $4.5k / Barclay Ring $5.35k / Citi DC (WMC) $12k
Gardening Date 7/01/16 / MyFico 08: EQ 801 / TU 777 / EX 771 / 06/08/17

Re: Is Citi trying to be funny?

Sandibeach - hope you get the CLI! It's amazing that our situations are very similar as far as UW goes, but mine is just totally a flat out NO WAY. I truly am done with them and I will continue to stick with my Barclays, Capital One and Discover cards because those banks have treated me the best over the years. Citi lost me from ever applying for their cards again. They lost in my opinion.

This exactly OP.  Why take it personal?  They send thousands and thousands of these offers all the time.  Even one of my family members gets them despite of having an active DP card!

The movie Frozen comes to mind OP.  Let it go, let it go...
